Where can I get me some good falafel in NYC?
Chickpea in New York, my go-to falafel place, went corporate and is franchising -- now they're baking their falafel instead of frying. Frankly, it was pretty bad. Any suggestions for new places to hit?

The place I hear most consistently lauded is Taim--

I like Rainbow Falafel, right next to the Union Square Greenmarket on 17th Street. I also like a trio of falafel carts on and around sixth avenue between 45th and 46th Streets: Kwik Meal, Moishe's, and Miriam's.

I love Maoz. Also, there's a schwarma/falafel place on Thomson, just north of Bleecker St, which I remember being pretty good. And its not a chain, so no worries about them going corporate!

Mamoun's. It's more of a take out place but so worth it if you're in the 'hood.

Maoz is great, I just had it last month and was impressed by it.
I'm not a fan of Mamoun's - I prefer Israeli-style falafel and Mamoun's is decidedly Middle Eastern. (I used to frequent the Mamoun's in New Haven because there was no where else to get it there).
My absolute FAVORITE is Naomi's Kosher Pizza & Falafel in Flushing - I grew up eating at that place at least once a month and it is my idea of falafel perfection. You must try it!

I'm not a fan of Mamoun's either, it's cheap (which has its place), but unimpressive and lazily prepared. A friend of mine recommended Hummus Place - does anyone know it?

Hummus Place is great for hummus platters but they only do falafels as a side, not in sandwich form. They also have some of the best schug in the city. For all manners of falafel, Azuri Cafe is great and it's kosher.

Hoomoos Asli, on Kenmare and Lafayette, is the best falafel I've had in the city. The place isn't much by way of atmosphere, but the food is terrific. And for a cheap takeout falafel sandwich lunch, Rainbow Falafel on 17th Street between 5th Ave. and Union Square rivals Mamoun's.
