Assuming you mean London, England, then I would always recommend St John Smithfield branch. On a budget, go to Kingsland Road for Vietnamese (Song Que is my preference) or north to Highbury/Hackney/Dalston for Turkish - there are too many greats to list and the exploration is part of the fun.

Oh, I love Song Que. It's about five minutes from where I live in Brick Lane. My absolute favourite restaurant in London is J Sheekey. I believe I have waxed lyrical about their endive remoulade with arbroath smokies before on this forum. I like St. John's Bread and Wine (Spitalfields) for puddings (their food in general is great, but their sweets are especially good). I also love Rasa, the original branch in Stoke Newington. They do a beetroot curry with yogurt that is truly a revelation. Actually, there are lots of great places in London, and loads of places that I haven't been to yet but am meaning to try - at the moment, Magdalen in Tooley Street is at the top of that particular list.

There are many great restaurants - River Cafe is fantastic, Le Cercle is always spot on, and curries anywhere always beat those in the US. But if there's one dish that I always come back to, it's the Thai calamari at Busaba on Wardour Street. Incredible stuff, better than any calamari I've tasted anywhere. And I've never met a squid lover who didn't think it was the best thing ever...

Have to agree with St John - lovely place.
Also - for Vietnamese - there's a great place on Englefield Road called Viet Huong..looks like a canteen, tastes like heaven :)
Another really good place for Indian food is the Lahore Kebab House off the Commercial Road in the East End.

Another great place is Mandalay on Edgware Rd: delicious Burmese food, especially if you get a little tired of a typical curry (it's possible. The owner is one of the most hospitable and sincere proprietors I've met. I've found nothing comparable anywhere in the states.
For Chinese, Mandarin Kitchen on Bayswater Rd.

J. Sheekey is my favorite restaurant, period. I'm not saying it's the "best," just my favorite.

Thats so funny, I'm reading Anthony Bourdain's book "A Cook's Tour" and he sings St John's praises to the rafters. Its definitely on my list of places to go (when I can afford it).
My absolute favourite favourite restaurant in London both for price, atmosphere and food is "The Little Bay" on Belsize Road just off of Kilburn High Street in NW6. They have balcony and theatre box tables, big baskets of delicious bread and butter, free vegetable side dishes and most 3 course meals are under 15 pounds.

Its a chain, but I highly recommend the Kilburn branch.
