Looks great!

I like having the blog posts on the left and TALK! on the right: it seems more intuitive that way, easier to read. Although, it seems like the site is a little slower to load on my ancient work computer than it used to be.

Very nice!

I like the color scheme much better than the pukey ones on the old version of the site. Looks great otherwise as well!

I think the new site looks great. I especially like the "bites" taken out of the tab that is being viewed.

It looks great. Unfortunately, the rss feed is broken :(
DM at 2:12PM on 07/18/07
DM: I just put in the rss feed fix. It should start updating for you shortly!

I've started to use Serious Eats as an example of good blog and blog writing for training new bloggers at work :) Grats on the usability.

Well done!

love it!

The new design is very handsome. I do, though, find the color choices, especially the aqua, hard on my eyes.
floretbroc at 2:39PM on 07/19/07
I love the changes too...
Question: Comment counts are not always showing up under the beginning of the article: I think no comments hav ebeen posted, but when I click through to "read more", there will be several! Click back, no comments listed?

You are doing things the hard way in http://www.seriouseats.com/scripts.js
Did you take a look at prototype?
rockhopper at 3:14PM on 07/20/07
Hi rockhopper, thanks for pointing that out! That file you mention actually contains mostly legacy code from the now-previous version of the website -- we were waiting for the dust to settle on the redesign before removing any old code. Prototype is a little heavy (93kb) -- instead we turned to jQuery (20kb) for all of our javascript needs.
Raphael at 4:29PM on 07/20/07
Cary, thanks for the feedback! It can take a few minutes for the comment counts to get updated across all the different pages, which is why sometimes you'll find they appear out-of-sync. We are working on optimizing things behind the scenes so you don't encounter this in the future.

any more thought to users having access to make a profile?
Kbear919 at 10:34AM on 07/21/07
Kbear919: Users have profiles currently (here's a link to yours) -- is there other info. you'd like to be able add to your profile that isn't there currently?
Alaina Browne at 4:26PM on 07/23/07
I had some problems signing in when you switched to new format, which I love. I cleared my cookies and temp files and was then able to sign in. Not sure if anyone has had such an issue, but this may be worth a try if you did.

I just want you to see my mention of Serious Eats in my Examiner column for today, July 23, titled "An Ode to Blogging." This is a serious blog, and I love it!

Teachertalk: Thanks for the mention! We're glad you're here. :)

My computer was down, so I just got back on the site. I had some trouble logging on, but other than that I think it works quite well. The new design is sleek and the color combos are hipper( I am an ex fashion designer) The most important thing to me, though, is the quality and integrity of this site. It is smart, innovative, and thoroughly amusing. That is what keeps me here!!!

The pork pop-up on the right side is getting annoying. It expands all the time so I can't read the right side. Sometimes there is an x to click, and sometimes I can't find one. Anyone else having the same pork sponsor pop-up problem? It's not bad enough to make me stop liking pork, however.
Teachertalk at 4:45PM on 08/04/07
Teachertalk: Thanks for the feedback! These ads only appear to misbehave for those of us on Macs. We're working on getting them replaced with static versions so they won't interfere with your ability to read the site. Please bear with us until then.
Alaina Browne at 1:00PM on 08/05/07
wonder about the advertising which looks more like "news" on the right side of the column.
two pro-GMO "articles" or sites appeared opposite the GMO article on SE. Would like to see a rebuttle. Or is it about $ to fund the site?
