Kurowycky
Someone at a certain other food chat site wrote that Kurowycky (a beloved old Polish butcher shop in the East Village) doesn't look like it's closing after all. Anyone know about this?

Hmmm, their site still says otherwise:

It's been closed for weeks, and the store is completely stripped. There are two other butchers in the neighborhood, maybe your friend confused one of them with Kurowycky.

It's very sad. I have such fond memories of lining up for Christmas ham for the last three decades. I know, there are other good butchers, but Kurowycky cured/smoked their own. What's the next-best-butcher in the area? Second Avenue north of St. Mark's?

I've only every gotten ham steak there since Kurowycky closed, and it was excellent. One of the neat things about Kurowycky was that it was right next to the Pierogi Store, enabling me to pick up the ingredients for a great Polish/Ukrainian meal in one fell swoop.
