Is Bahn Mi sandwich heaven? If not...what is sandwich heaven?
At this moment they are my favorite sandwich on the earth. The savory pate, the crunch of the pickled veggies the fresh zing of cilantro the savory mayo, the hint of maggi, and pork fat!
Is this heaven on a roll for you too? if not what is sandwich heaven for you?

I keep hearing about this sandwich, but have never had one. Can I get this at any Vietnamese place?

Kbear: To paraphrase The Righteous Brothers, "If there's a sandwich heaven, then you know they've got a hell of a banh mi..."
Skigil: While you may be able to get a banh mi at just any Vietnamese place, I wouldn't. I've never had a good one at a restaurant. You need to find yourself a genuine Vietnamese deli that specializes in them.

i would say a cubano, a north carolina-style pulled pork sandwich with crisp 'slaw, or a perfect softshell crab sandwich all come close, but none quite match the complexity of the bahn mi...

If we're talking the whole of planet Earth as opposed to Planet NYC then you are all Sorely mistaken. This is where you'll find your topnotch sarnies - http://www.noodlepie.com/2006/02/is_this_the_bes.html

bahn mi are perfection. the only thing that comes close in my mind is a really good, freshly made falafel sandwich.

I've never had a bahn mi, though my interest is piqued now. A favourite sandwich of mine, though not terribly original, is crusty multigrain bread, good dijon mustard, a creamy cheese like edam or provolone, and lots of crisp and spicy greens and edible flowers!

bahn mi is always delicious and usually extremely cheap. I never thought of eating carrots on a sandwich before. The Cilantro is so much tastier than lettuce.
Tortas are also heaven. A mexican sandwich on a big football shaped bun with refried beans, meat (i prefer the fajitas), guacamole, sour cream or crema, lettuce and tomatoes.

A cuban sounds pretty good right now ;)

Bahn mi will be added to Cuban sandwiches as two sandwiches I yearn to try yet seem to lack opportunity. I refuse to try cuban sandwiches in London as there are very few cubans here, and no dill pickles at all. Its really terrible.
However, I love lox - does it count a sandwich. It may not be exotic, but its tried and true. Also, cream cheese, capers and onion will never be wrong for me.

I loooove Banh Mi (they make veggie versions in NYC) and used to get them all the time - I would pass by a great place on my way home from work and there was an outpost of said place about a 10 minute walk from my apartment in Bklyn. I totally miss those places.
However, a good homemade panini with fresh mozzarella and homegrown tomatoes and basil on fresh ciabatta will do in a pinch :)

i second B...lox, cream cheese, tomato and onion on a bagel

Authentic Italian-American sub on a chewy, crusty roll with lots of hard or dry salame, capacolla, sharp provolone, chopped dill pickles, red onions, tomatoes, a shake of oregano, salt and pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil. MMMMmmmmm...
Jambon beurre, but only in France. So simple but so amazing. With local wine, of course. (baguette, ham, butter)
Bagel (preferrably sesame seed), cream cheese, lox, red onion, and lots of capers. No tomato. Ever. Ruins the flavor of the lox.
A well-made Monte Cristo. Almost never see these awesome old-school treats anymore, but when I do, they're usually grilled or pan-fried. Huh? Guess the food police didn't tell them that they must be completely dipped in batter and deep-fried to be really good.
The club sandwich at the Hotel Astoria in St. Pete, Russia... and I don't even like club sandwiches!!! With hot shoestring fries dusted with black pepper -- they tasted like they dug the potatoes just 10 minutes before we ordered. (poached chicken breast, back bacon, hard-cooked egg, tomato, mayo, and a touch of dijon)
