Due to a combination of location, age and budget, I've never had a bahn mi or a French macaron, and I would looove to eat both of these. What are the foods you've never had and would love to try?

Oh my gosh! I have always wanted to try sushi! My grandson has a Japanese exchange student staying with them this summer. Next Sunday (we're big on Sunday Family Dinners) Yukiya will take my daughter & grandson to my local fish market (with attached restaurant/take out) and chose some assorted sushi for us to try. I can't wait!

I scratched Abalone off of my list this year, which leaves cobra. When I was in Vietnam a few years ago, you could order it fresh out of the cage, and have the still-beating heart offered to you in a shot of whiskey. I was too squeamish then, and may still be now. But I've regretted not trying it for several years, and so if the opportunity comes up again...

I love this post idea!
I guess seafoods would be at the top of my list, particularly mussels and more dishes with scallops. My limitation is similar with location and budget, but I also have another restriction: living in a house with a kosher kitchen.

Really good scallops. Everything I've tried was the equivalent of an old tire swimming in butter. Is it possible to get good scallops in the midwest??

I've never had bahn mi, and never really considered it as I don't eat meat. But in another talk topic someone mentioned that there's a vegetarian version, so that's what I'd like to try. If anyone knows where to get such a thing in London, let me know.

I'd love to try some really spendy caviar [I've only tried the cheap stuff]...and I'd also like to try truffles.
I tried Sushi a few years ago and now I've mastered making my own (it's actually very easy to make)! A great Sushi gadget is a silicone mat to make rolled Sushi...I bought one for around 10 bux on Amazon.com and it's sooo nice and clean compared to using my bamboo mat. :)

BaHa, black french truffles are indeed expensive and a couple of ounces will easily cost $100 but if you really want to try them, order an ounce and savor every last bite. and emptyage, if you ever find a place that will serve me a beating cobra heart in a shot glass, please let me know, i'll meet you there. (but i want it served with jack daniels black)

After watching No Reservations, I really want some goey duck clam!
I'm curious about Shark Fin soup, but certainly don't want to add to the endangerment of certain shark species or the practice of finning (eeep!).
I'm moving to Ireland in the fall, so some haggis is in order jonfoxx.

I live in Wyoming, where there isn't any Korean/Japanese/Thai restaurants, let alone Moroccan. When the bf and I go to Denver later this month, I'm dragging to the Moroccan and Ethiopian places...

I would love to try truffles and caviar - I finally ate foie gras in paris this year (my parents paid) - or duck confit.
I would like to try sweetbreads, salmon cheeks, fugu (poisonous blowfish!) and tiny deep fried birds that anthony bourdain talks about in "A cooks Tour" from Vietnam.
I'm up for attempting to cook most things I want to try, but sometimes you need to try it once to know how it should taste before plunging even deeper and trying to cook it yourself.

Goeduck clam is actually available
a) in a Chinatown nearest you, but I'm pretty sure they cook it. Raw anything still isn't all that in vogue with traditional Chinese cuisine. Some restaurants have them live in their seafood tanks...hideous things indeed!
b) at a well-stocked respectable sushi bar, ask for mirugai aka "giant clam"
c) at a Japanese market like a Mitsuwa (if you live in the tristate area, try the one in Fort Lee, its regularly stocked either pre sliced or in larger pieces).
Hmm...what would I like to try?
When I was in Japan last, I never did get to try their raw horse meat, basashi or fugu (poor student budget!).
I chickened out on grilled scorpion and cicada pupa, but I kick myself for that constantly. Next chance I get (and that may be soon!), I'll really have to go for it!
Something a little more down to earth...I really want to try some authentic Osakan okonomiyaki...I've had some in Tokyo, but many people have told me you just, havent had it until you've gone to Osaka...it's also like a good kaiseki meal in a rustic old ryokan some day!

I want to buy a big mass of chicken livers and cook them up in oil and butter with onions. I think it was Jacques Pepin who did this recently on Fast Food My Way and it looked like the most glorious fatty mess ever. I'm a'scared because a) I don't want to handle chicken livers. I can barely stand handling raw chicken as it is and b) what if it's disgusting?

If it's disgusting, you call out for a pizza. But if you have a problem handling raw chicken, raw livers might give you the same problem on steroids.

Also, I've never had bread pudding - always been too full at a restaurant to order it, but should find a good recipe to make myself.

Some years ago the PBS program "Victory Garden" went to a banana farm. They had over 50 varieties. One was called "ice cream". It grew round about the size of a softball, and when the host bit into it his eyes rolled back and it looked like he was about to pass out from pleasure. Apparently, the creamy texture and vanilla like sweetness gives the ice cream banana it's name. I want that! Too bad most markets only vend the one Chiquita style variety.

people say they are dying to try haggis....very over rated in my mind... think innards and oats....even if you thought of it on a gourmet way.... it still shouldn't keep you up at night... think bahn mi! :)

I've been so lucky to have had most of the items posted and pretty much everything I've ever thought to try... but, no haggis (don't want it!), no bugs (again, don't want it!), no brains (I don't think you can get this anymore?), and no poutine (sounds yummy!).
Well, never had horsemeat or goat meat -- I'd definitely be up for those.
Those who haven't tried...
Sushi -- Mmmmmmmmmmmm! Definitely somewhere on the top ten list for me...
Sweetbreads -- Another one of my faves... I order this every chance I get... I was skeptical the first time (not a fan of organ meats), and was knocked off my feet by how totally delish it was!!! Instant addict, here!
Caviar -- Must be good quality, then it's amazing. Again, I was very skeptical about it, but turns out it's SO good! The best ever was in St. Petersburg, Russia, a dish called eggs and eggs (loose translation), where creamy, soft scrambled eggs are topped with caviar on toast points, and a bit of creme fraiche and chives. Orgasmic.

I've found WD50 to be extremely interesting, rather than orgasmic. Had dinner there last week -- very good, perfectly cooked beef with a smear of spiced coconut cream and gnocchi flavored with black coffee. It took me a while to sort of deconstruct the flavor-profile (hunhh...the beef and coconut are a sort of pared-down Indonesian rendang, and Java grows great coffee...) and as someone who really enjoys thinking about food, that was a very pleasant and, yeah, interesting half-hour. And the gnocchi were also perfectly cooked, making me realize that all the gummy ones I had eaten unhappily before had been badly made, and probably with the wrong potatoes. So, all in all, an enjoyable meal. But in terms of orgasmic taste, I'll take a grilled steak, hold the coconut, and hash browns (coffee on the side, thanks) any day.
And while I likes my bone marrow on toast just fine, truth is, I likes my bread and butter better.
