Question of the Day: Did you see 'Ratatouille' this weekend?

What did you think?

16 Comments:

Best restaurant movie ever - pulling just ahead of Mostly Martha. I think it will also prove to be one of the best movies of the year.

Great movie. Made me pullup a recipe for ratatouille for dinner tonight.

I did. As a food movie, it was great and touched on a lot of subjects. As a movie-movie, I got really tired of all the trials and tribulations and set backs which seemed to pile up on top of each other. The last 20 minutes, however, brought tears to my eyes and was worth the wait.

I loved it! I went to culinary school and have worked front and back of the house at restaurants. I now do PR for restaurants. As an "insider," I thought it hit home on so many levels. It had a lot of fantastic elements for insiders and everyone else, too. There were a ton of kids in our theater, and they seemed to enjoy it as well.

I did, and I liked it. Granted, I'm a huge fan of anything Pixar does.

From a food geek standpoint: I really related to the main character, it gave me a better idea of what it's like to work in a kitchen, and now I'm craving saffron. I relate to the main rat's episodes of synesthesia just a little too well.

From a movie geek standpoint: It's not as good as The Incredibles, but Pixar does it again! The visuals were gorgeous. The script could have been cut down just a bit. I have questions about how it will play to kid audiences.

Loved the concept, and I agree with everyone's comments here: great movie about food, but maybe not the best movie-movie ever made. Still, it made me want to don a toque and get down to business.

Hmm.. I am in to food, I am in to cartoons. I am not in to going to the movies.. You cant take bong hits in the theater..

Loved it, and thought the depiction of kitchen life was spot on.

thought it was "cute," the food/restaurant part is most of what i enjoyed. the rest of the dialogue/plot could have waited till it came out at the $1.50 theater (although the animation was pretty amazing)...

Had about one too many frenetic chase scenes, or one, two many. Otherwise, it was a blast and I'm in danger of expecting computer graphics to always look this good.

Got grossed out at the sight of hundreds of rats in a kitchen, must say, but then again, it was a MOVIE and not reality. The reality is merely scores of rats, right?

Great fun to watch, a good plot, French accents not too badly done so as to distract from the plot, and a lot of satiric humor.

I just saw this movie tonight, and overall, I loved it. I think that it would have great appeal to anyone who cares enough about food to love this site. I agree with hundredthings in that it wasn't quite as wonderful as the Incredibles, but the theme made it completely endearing to anyone who loves to cook and share their food.

was a toally fun movie with little inside food humor jokes which made it fun...

I actually snuck into it after seeing Michael Moor's Sicko which i love the line "If your government can spend millions on killing people (in refrence to Iraq) why Can't it spend the same on helping its own citiezens (National healthcare)

Also the fact that instead of actually protesting all that the government is doing wrong and making them change we just sit and blog about it....

Saw this yesterday, and I have to agree that it's a lot of fun for anyone who loves food and cooking. My niece (almost 6) laughed her head off at the kid-focused funny stuff, while I laughed at the food/restaurant things AND at her laughing.
Fwiw, I'm not specifically an animation fan, but most of what is on the screen is pretty amazing, with a few exceptions that jumped out as a little underwhelming (i.e. the critic writing on his pad).

Nope. No kids, don't like being around kids en masse (which for me is more than two within a mile of each other). May Netflix.

I agree with Kbear919 - the inside food jokes made it really fun for me, but the rip-roaring chase scenes and rats working the kitchen jokes made my eight-year-old nephew love it. I really think there was a great balance for both kids and adults...my favorite Pixar movie so far!

Have seen it twice & loved every minute-----will most likely see it again before it leaves the theaters.
