Desserts I don't like...

This was posed & answered on Dessert Comes First blog today. As the pro-dessert person that I am, I can easily just say no to: any Jello based dessert, fruitcake & Baklava. Any desserts you place in your "no thanks" category?

47 Comments:

Anything with cream cheese icing.

As a baker I find that I can look at a case or table of desserts and say no no no and ew ew and yuck. I am so highly picky most times I just skip it.
I don't like baked fruit. I am mortified by icing of suspicious nature.
Whipped cream icing only works on things with fresh strawberries.
1/2 inch of cake and 3 inches of frosting is repugnant.
Coffee cake should not have cement for streusel.
No jello poke cakes it makes me go insane.
If I see a dirt cake or kitty litter cake again there may a scene.

Any dessert full stop. I just lack the 'sugar tooth' I guess. Don't think i'm healthy though. I'll eat anything fat laden and salty over dessert any day. ^^

Anything "sugar free". Hey! You with the measuring cup! Step away from the sweetener!!

Anything with banana, coconut, or with canned fruit or pie filling. Too sweet!

I know this amounts to heresy, but I really dislike pie - by which I mean the pie crust with the fruit stuff in the middle. It's just so gloppy. And please don't try to tell me that I haven't had a good one. I have. It just isn't my bag. (Yes, ok, I'm a bit defensive.) I especially hate pumpkin pie. I don't like whipped cream either.

I have never met a dessert I don't like.

Caley - Finally...someone else who also dislikes pie! Doesn't matter what pie it is, I don't like it (except for chicken pot pie!)

I really dislike tiramisu or anything with the slightest bit of coffee or mocha flavor. Also not a fan of cannolis...

I don't care for citrus desserts much. Lemon bars are the only exception and that's due to the insane amount of sugar involved.

Other than that, the sky is the limit when it comes to dessert. Lilartist and I would get along just fine.

My heart weeps for those who don't like pie. I adore it but won't accuse anyone of never having a 'good' pie. To each his own- if you don't like it you don't like it and that's good enough for me.

Chocolate. Most chocolate desserts (I exclude candy from this) are one-note, overly rich, and just boring. I lean toward maple, caramel, burnt sugar... I adore pie, but consider it a meal, not a dessert.

Like choc_puddin, I prefer the salty-fat combo to sugar -- and that includes chocolate. Give me a good appetizer over dessert anytime! The one exception is a post-meal plate of assorted fruit and cheese.

dessert foods ill happily pass on:
-souffle
-whipped cream
-cream puffs/profiteroles
-fruit pie fillings (i usually scrape out pie fillings and enjoy the crust)
-pecan pie
-sorbets
-cannoli
-non-cruller donuts
-angel food cake
-meringue
-creme anglaise
-and this isnt really dessert, but i hate sweetened popcorn

Flan, I've never understood what was appealing about a dessert that is slimy and wet.

Anything with cooked cherries, I don't like the texture when they are hot.

Not much of a sweet tooth here either. I despise pecan pie...don't worry, I've been to the South and had real pecan pie, it's just disgusting. I'd rather have some sorbet or yogurt or ice cream or fruit any day. Can you tell it's summer! ;-)

Banana pudding with oxidized bananas and soggy vanilla wafers. And a cupcake has yet to win my heart.

I love sugar. But I hate jello, bread pudding, tapioca pudding, apple and cherry pie and typical birthday cakes. Cheesecake has to be something really special to win me over. Also, not a fan of plain vanilla ice cream....boring!

Cream puffs
Baba or any yeast based cake
Desserts that are too sweet
Desserts with too much cinnamon
Sweet bread puddings
Jello (never had it actually)
There must be others but I don't remember them right now.

LunaPierCook, I agree! No artifical sugar & no fake fat in my desserts. When I eat dessert, I want the real deal!

I'm not a fan of extreme chocolate desserts or super rich cheesecakes.

Cheese cake - shoot me. I've just never been crazy about it or for that matter, any dessert made with cream cheese.

Ash and ShannonT - I couldn't agree more. Cheesecake is awful.

tiramisu.

also, anything that requires sharing.

I can't handle flan, custard, eggy bread puddings, or anything with a lot of egg in it that isn't smooth and creamy. I also can pass on most normal boring ice creams that aren't gelato. meh. does nothing for me. (unless its homemade!)

I can lump my dessert dislikes into this pile: kid desserts. By this I mean the stuff that appeals primarily to those people in the area of 6-16. Usually WAY too sweet and built on one flavor, I can barely get a second mouthful down when I am served something in this vain.

Since I have begun to cook/bake for myself, my taste in desserts tends toward more complex flavors than "sweet." A little bitterness from coffee or burnt sugar, a little acid from citrus or balsamic vinegar -- these sort of things usually make kids go "ewwww" and me go "mmmmmm..."

I'm wish whoever said fruitcake, mostly because I dislike dried fruits (except cranberries). As for banana pudding-- no. Also, I never really find cupcakes to be as pleasant as everyone else does, not because I haven't had a good one, but because the whole idea seems a little crocked. Why not just give up and make mini cakes?

No tiramisu, please. It's just oogy. I have yet to find a good one.

NO cake please.
I don't like whipped cream anything, inside or out like cream puffs.
I won't eat crust either...
Ice cream is an all together different matter.
Definitely ice cream anything.

I detest french silk pie - it is a waste of a good pie crust.

Lemon meringue pie
Commercial cheesecke
Rum balls or rum cake
Pudding
Cherry Pie
Any kind of cream pie

Anything made in a factory, or a creepy corporate bakery (obviously).

And no pudding or custard of any kind, ever! The wobbliness, the sliminess, the hideous egg or gelatin or cornstarch taste -- ugh.

I hate buttercream icing more than I could ever accurately describe. It killed me just to type the words.

tiramisu and canolli. especially canolli. yuck!

I hate desserts with cooked fruit. Fruit pies, clafouti, cherries jubilee, I'd happily pass by. It's like eating gloopy jam. Nor do I much care for bread puddings or cannoli. There's a spice in there that just doesn't go for me.

Hmm.. I have yet to find a dessert that I dislike. Sure I would never order most things, in restaurants but if I could at least have a bite.. I would never say no. However, fruitcakes.. I'll pass, mostly because I hate raisins. So that makes anything with raisins. I'll pick them out of scones, scones, pies, breads and cakes.

I also don't care for black forrest cake. bo.ring.

Custards & puddings (all kinds)
Flan (okay, just include anything that's wiggly and weepy)
Just about anything sweet with nuts (I love nuts, just not in desserts)
Pumpkin pie
Baklava (it makes my teeth ache just to write)
Those horrible fruit pies with gelatinous day-glo fillings...

I'm with you on the flan bit. Also, the artificial sweeteners are pretty awful.

I will not eat:

Pie with a pastry crust
Fruitcake
Anything with coconut
Lemon bars, sugar cookies, fruity cookies
Flan

Desserts that I'll eat if I'm desperate for something sweet but would normally say no to:
Plain cheesecake (I'd rather have chocolate)
White cake (ditto on the chocolate)
Angel food cake
Pound cake
Fruit crisps
Non-chocolate ice cream

Liquor-flavored, frozen Italian concoctions with dried fruit. I know there's a name for this stuff but, sorry, I can't dredge it up.

Cheap, nasty grocery store cakes, anything with fake "whipped topping" or that contains the same ingredients as whipped topping, you know the roof of the mouth coaty stuff. I also agree with the artificial sweeteners on principal, as far as I know I've never eaten an artificially sweetened dessert and I hope I never do, if it comes to that I'd rather just have plain fruit.

Anything with coffee flavor. Hate it! Bleech!!!! Also tiramisu. Never understood what the appeal was. Next up, cheesecake. Is it cheese or cake? The two by themselves are just fine, but that chalky yet creamy texture and the richness of them just makes me want to vomit. Finally, anything with dark chocolate. Can't stand the burnt flavor of it. Too much of a good thing I think.

I like most desserts but I hate it when they put the decorative raspberry liquid stuff around the plate and I get it on my chocolate cake. I don't like raspberry anything-those tiny little seeds irritate me. I rarely meet a dessert that I don't like.

wow, after reading everyone else's hated desserts, i think i can honestly say there are none that i dislike. i love sugar!

i don't care for boozy desserts or vanilla ice cream.

emily: Spumoni? Is that what you're thinking of? (ick for me, as well)

Any flavor of chiffon anything.

If I'm thinknig most restaurant menus, i usually pass up the Key Lime Pie, or the Baked Apple Cobbler. I'm not a citrus or fruity person. I usually hate cheesecake, but I have to admit Cheesecake Factory is an exception, not just because it's in the name. And while I like souffle cakes, souffles themselves are too eggy and nasty for me.
