Cheesemaking supplies in NYC?

I'm really interested in making some fresh mozzarella at home - it looks pretty easy, but I need to buy some cheesemaking supplies (i.e., rennet, citric acid and a clip-on thermometer). Does anyone know of a shop in NYC that sells this stuff? (I know that I could just order it online but I want to try making it this weekend. and i'm impatient.)

Ambienttra: At one point a couple years ago, I tried to source rennet, etc., in NYC but had crappy luck. I ended up, as you say, having to order online via New England Cheesemaking Supply Company. They sell a 30-Minute Mozzarella and Ricotta Kit for $25.

I had good luck with the kit myself. One thing you might want to make sure you have is a very large stockpot and a very large mixing bowl in addition to a very-fine-meshed sieve.

For your first batch, you're probably best sticking with the gallon of milk that the NECMSC recipe recommends. You'll quickly find that it's a small amount of cheese for the bother. I started working with 2 gallons of milk pretty quickly—that's when you need the very large stockpot.

I just talked to Jamie of curdnerds.com, and he mentioned if you're really impatient, you might want to try to find someone who carries premade curd, and then just do the stretching part yourself. He says the Syrian stores down on Kings Highway in Brooklyn sell the curd and that Todaro's also carries it: http://www.todarobros.com/

thanks for the info, adam! i think i'll order the supplies from the first place you mentioned and do it from scratch. And i definitely have a giant stockpot and mixing bowl, so I'll be sure so have those ready.

I just read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle - the author does a cheesemaking workshop with Ricki Carroll. That's what got me started on this whole thing to begin with!
