Question of the Day: You have 6 lemons. What to make? GO!

6 lemons is the theme. What will you make with them? Iron chef/top chef style question.

33 Comments:

lemon mousse pie! oh shoot! I only have 2 lemons : (

With 12 cans of garbanzo beans, a few heads of garlic, some salt, parsley, olive oil, tahini and paprika, a very large bowl of hummus.

With 18 large haas avocados, a few heads of garlic, cilantro, salt, tomatoes and jalapenos, a very large bowl of guacamole.

I would make a lemon curd tart with fresh berries and glaze on top.

Make this Lemon Yogurt Cake, http://www.barefootcontessa.com/recipes/1_txt.html . I wouldn't make it if you are alone though. You may be tempted to eat the ENTIRE cake by yourself. I make it in a round pan to put on my cake platter. So good.

Ditto lemon curd tart. Any lemons left over I'd make hummus.

A wise man once said (and I cannot, for the life of me, remember the name of the "wise man"):

"When life hands you lemons . . . . make Lemonade."

Lemon sorbet or lemon squares

Before squeezing, zest the lemons and add the zest to 250ml of grain alcohol. After 3-4 days strain, add in 250ml each of water and simple syrup. Pop in the freezer. Homemade Limoncello.

Lemon sorbet. It's sooo refreshing!

i concur with JEP

Lemon chutney, spicy and sweet.

It could top a pyramid of perfectly steamed rice with chickpeas. A mound of crisp dice of lightly minted cucumber salad on one side with a pile of soft julienned hot and sweet pepper and fennel salad on the other side.

Deep fried crunchy golden onion slivers tossed here and there over it all.

Linguine with lemon, sweet butter, salt, pepper, nutmeg.

I second lemon sorbet and lemonade and lemon curd. All so delicious.

A centerpiece of a bowl of lemons.

When life gives you six lemons, dammit you make six glasses of lemonade

Add some gin, powdered sugar, and club soda for a pitcher of TOM COLLINS!

Lemon vinaigrette to be served over chick pea salad.

I would go out and get a keg of Franziskaner Weissbier and have a party.

I second the vote for Barefoot Contessa's lemon yogurt cake. It is one of the easiest and yummiest desserts I have made and everyone loves it. But you won't use all 6 lemons. If your lemons are on their way to having to be tossed, squeeze them and freeze the juice in ice cube trays. Instant lemon juice ready to go for your next recipe!

Love the trick Jeana!

I think some lemon bars are in order. Or just some whiskey and lemonade. Or both.

I would have to agree with limoncello, down with anything 'barefoot contessa' and on to the lemon bars...

Preserved lemons for that tagine recipe you've been wanting to try.. or avgolemono soup if you feel a cold coming on.. or do what I did this weekend: make lemon custard ice cream!

Triple lemon cupcakes! Lemon cupcakes with lemon curd filling and lemon-cream cheese frosting. Decorated with lemon zest curls :)

EatWisconsin, I'd come to your party with my lemons and more beer!

Otherwise, I'd make lots of mezze dips- especially muhamarra.

Wash the lemons good and zest them, and use the zest with chopped up parsley and chopped garlic as a persillade. Juice the lemons for lemonade.

Persillade is a great topping for fried items, particularly fried chicken and fried shrimp. Its also fantastic over grilled meats.

I'd grab a bottle of tequila and a salt shaker... ;-)

I would make sweet & sour lemon pickles. Cut up the lemons & add salt & red chilli put in a glass jar, wait for 3 days. Add brown sugar & add olive oil, cumin seeds, garlic (rosted,) Let it dry inthe sun in summer, for a week.

I highly recommend Meyer Lemon Risotto via 101 Cookbooks. Absolutely delicious.

You could also make Katie Loeb' Limoncello recipe.

I've made it, and I can attest it is very, very good.
