The Warden wants to know . . .
OKAY, this question may not be very original.
In fact, I have seen it posed on other, less-sophisticated forums than "Serious Eats."
BUT, my curiosity is almost as original (and old) as Mesozoic rocks. SOOooo . . . here it is (the question, that is):
“You are on Death Row, and the Warden (or one of his/her minions) asks the proverbial question . . . 'What would you like for your final culinary experience?' "
How would you answer?
P.S. --- To those folks who prefer that I couch my banter in the simplest , and least wordy, format . . . What would you choose as your "Last Meal"? :>)

Two Flint-style coneys, and an ice-cold mug of A&W root beer.

I'm a traditionalist - if I'm going to go out in a blaze of electricity, or even the slow sleep of lethal injection, I think I'd want the basics: a ribeye, roasted fingerlings and a good stout beer.

I can go a few ways on this: oysters, lobster roll, blueberry or raspberry pie (my adopted cuisine) perhaps with muscadet
OR
Baked clams, pizza, sfogliatelle (my native, that is, Brooklyn cuisine) with some red or other
OR
Given that this is Father's Day, my dad's Swedish pancakes, accompanied by caviar, instead of the more usual Welch's Grape Jelly (so shoot me, I love it)

I expect I'd have trouble working up an appetite. But if not, then maybe a couple of steamed lobsters, corn on the cob, some beer, and a pint of really decadent chocolate ice cream.

Oh god, it'd be meatfest. I'm a vegetarian, so it'd probably go something like this:
hot wings
turkey provolone and mayo sub
fried chicken with buttermilk biscuits, mashed potatoes and gravy
just-baked chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream

really lashes? a meatfest? 3 times over?
Kbear919 at 10:09PM on 06/17/07
That's quite a repeatfest!
Barbara Hanson at 10:22PM on 06/17/07
I think I'd have Dom at DiFara make me a nice fresh pie and have it with an ice cold Pepsi.
Lashes457...with this longing for meat, what keeps you a vegetarian? I know I couldn't win that internal battle pretty fast!

I meant I'd LOSE that battle pretty fast! Doh.

I would have to have my grandfather's clam chowder and clam cakes (fritters, really). Unfortunately, he' s long gone. Also, I would need some excellent wings, preferably eaten in a bar in Buffalo.

crispy bacon, eggs over easy, toasted rye bread and a lovely scoopful of crispy hashbrowns... I love breakfast...
Lilartist at 11:31AM on 06/18/07
Croque monsieur, frites, and a half-bottle of red wine.

Some Montepulciano, some grilled shell steak, lobster, boiled new potatos. Asparagus with hollandais, for desert apple pie with vanilla ice cream.
Boring I know.

From what I understand, most prisons don't let the prisoners choose alcoholic beverages with their last meal. I imagine they want them to be a lucid as possible before they kill them.
The last meals of Texas inmates. See also Dead Man Eating.

DaveFarris - on the last meals of Texas inmates link ... #291 ... he wanted Cool Whip and cherries.
That's twisted, man.

A nice 2" thick porterhouse steak just barely cooked, a big plate of thinly sliced onion rings....followed by a large vanilla milkshake made the old fashioned way, with whole milk & homemade ice cream. Yum!
mepolo at 4:44PM on 06/18/07
oh i'm late to the game....but I'd ask to be fed sushi by a scantily dressed 24 year old.

My wife works in a prison and I confess to having spent a bit of time in one myself ... so I know of what I speak.
I'd request an entree from The Rusty Scupper followed by a Sandra Lee apple pie filling stuffed angel food cake.
