Question of the Day: What's your go-to summertime drink?

Interpret "drink" loosely—lemonade, gin and tonic, iced coffee or tea. What do you reach for to keep cool. (And, heck, if you have an easy recipe for it, do share!)

During the summer, I love a lemonade with lots of ice. I also find an ice cold Corona Extra beer to be exceptionally thirst quenching. But, if I'm out, I go to Jamba Juice, and get a Peach Perfection. Delicious and refreshing!!!!

Pimm's cup
Ideally with cucumber, orange and apple slices (and mint).

Lemonade all the way! If I'm not in the mood to make some myself I love Paul Newman's Virgin Lemonade....just the right amount of sweet & tart.

pastis, but with ice

ice tea with lemonaide ice cubes

watermelon lemonade

Hibiscus and seltzer! Cover 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers with 4 cups boiling water and let steep until cool. Strain and refrigerate. Splash some in a tall glass, sweeten if you like, top up with sparkling water.

On a really hot day, nothing beats mint iced tea, made by pouring boiling water over fresh mint and chilling the resulting infusion. It's very pale and would look wonderful with ice cubes that had something frozen in them, like a berry or mint leaf.

Blueberry vodka lemonade with Stoli blueberry and Newman's Own lemonade, shaken and poured over ice. I had one of these at B-Side last summer and there's been no going back. I've tried other lemonade brands, but Newman's Own is the best.

Non-alcoholic: iced coffee, Arnold Palmers (1/2 lemonade, 1/2 iced tea), iced tea with fresh mint

Alcoholic: Vodka tonics, (dark-usually Mt. Gay) rum and tonic, Tequiza (yes, you read that right), vodka and lemonade

A brand called Just Lemonade with seltzer - ice cold.

Pomegranit blood orange juice and seltzer ($1.95 at Sahadi's for a quart of the juice!).

Add vodka to either of these choices for a buzz-ola.

I like sangria. I got hooked on it a few years back on a trip to the Costa del Sol in Spain. There, "tinto de verano" was cheaper than even ordering water.

Rosé - at magic hour, on a city sidewalk, with a bowl of salty peanuts.

Mojitos!!! When a mojito is made well, I can't imagine a more refreshing drink.

I love really cold Iced tea - unsweetend. I like to blend regular black tea w/ a flavor like peach or pomegranite when making sun tea. So good.

Lately I've been mixing up large glasses of grapefruit gimlets on the rocks: lots of ice in a tall glass, a little Rose's lime juice, a shot or two of gin, a splash of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, top off with sparkling water. If I get the urge early in the day, I make it without the gin.

Passion Fruit Iced tea, made with Harney & Sons tea. Flavored Callistoga sparkling water is a close second, but I haven't been able to find it on the east coast.

Lemonade in whatever flavor I can muster up. Arnold Palmers with tart lemonade. Mimosas with great orange juice and asti. Madras. Sangria my own special recipe with 151hehe, its so good you never know what hit you.
Sweet tea southern style.

I know it's summer when I see Ginger Lemonade appear on the shelves @ Trader Joe's. But if looking to do cocktails, nothing beats my own picky variation on a Moscow Mule: Equal parts Stewart's Ginger Beer [nice & spicy], Simply Limeade and dark Jamaican rum. Sometimes I like to add some fresh mint if it's handy, but either way, that and a good book, and I'm set for an evening on the porch.

Summer = tequila sunrise + beer nuts.
I'm going to be looking for that Ginger Lemondade, sallyforth.

Limeade. Never by itself (too sweet), but mixed with seltzer, green tea, or tequila (just add salt and a slice of lime for instant margarita).

Unfortunately the supermarkets around here have either stopped selling the frozen cans, or are only selling the tiny 6 oz ones. I think they're trying to pimp evil yucky margarita mix instead. Newman's Own, in the carton, is pretty good, though.

Green tea is also nice mixed with other juices. In paricular, if you can get rose-flavored green tea (or black tea for that matter), it is ever so delicious with blackberry or raspberry juice.

I second the Pimm's Cup. Definitey with cucumber and apple slices.

Ice cold unsweetened tea with extra lemon.

Unsweetened Iced tea with a fresh lemon wedge & lots of ice cubes

My mother's hibiscus-mint tea. She brews it in a massive blue stoneware teapot, then decants it to steep in a fluted glass pitched in the fridge. Stir in a tablespoon of sugar, add an ice cube if you want, and enjoy.

Alcoholic-- margaritas with a little salt, not too strong.

Good old Southern sweet tea
Ice cold Dasani water
Wallaby Darned's made with fresh peaches. It's like a peach slushie for adults.
There's nothing like swinging on the porch swing with a glass of this in your hand. That is when it's offically Summer for me.

8 ounces frozen sliced peaches (fresh are much better)
1/2 cup Bacardi Fuzzy Navel mix
1/2 cup ice
1/2 cup champagne
3 fluid ounces water
1 1/2 fluid ounces peach schnapps
1 1/2 fluid ounces vodka
1 tablespoon sugar (optional- I never use it)

Combine all ingredients in a blender.
Blend on high speed for approx.
30 seconds or until ice is completely crushed and the drink is smooth.
Serve immediately.

Iced tea or lemonade, but alcoholic would be a Coney Island Jen: pineapple juice, coconut rum, and ginger ale. Mix to taste.

lemongrass Iced tea. steep some lemongrass in water, boil and use the water to make iced tea. No sugar for me.

Nice cold bottle of Coke (Mexican, natch) or a gin and tonic with Tanqueray, lots of lime and Whole Foods brand tonic.

Fresh-mint mojitos!

Limeade concentrate and lime seltzer, and lots of ice.

Ooh, summertime beverages...
*Caipirinhas
*Vodka Lemonade

Lemonada...
Gin and Fresca
