Midtown restaurant for a date?

Anyone have recommendations for a good restaurant to take a date in midtown Manhattan?

Nothing too expensive or fancy.......any kind of cuisine. I'm just looking for a GOOD restaurant to take someone.. :)

The first restaurant that comes to mind, is Cafe Loup, 13th off 6th Ave.. Though not really midtown, it is convenient. It is French bistro food, not expensive, and nice ambience. More midtown, you can go to Becco,46th near 9th Ave., after the theater crowd leaves, and sit upstairs. There is also Le Madeline,43rd near 9th Ave. French, intimate, and not expensive. If you expand your search more downtown, I can help you further.

What about bread bar at Tabla? or sushi at Hatsuhana? or go for korean food around penn station.

Bread Bar is a great suggestion...fantastic food, choice of indoor or al fresco seating, wonderful cocktails, and the prices are very reasonable!

The restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Paramount Hotel is nice and not too expensive. Plus you could have a pre- or post- date drink in their 1st floor bar.

The Russian Tea Room has reopened, no? I can't speak for the quality of their food.

Cafe Un Deux Trois has a pre-theater rush but if you get there past 7:30 it's nice and they put crayons on the table!

Oh, La Masseria on 48th is great Italian food and a wonderful wine selection. It might be a little on the pricey side though. It's down the street from the Walter Kerr Theater.

I also recommend Bread Bar at Tabla. Actually, Devi is SOOOO good. I like it better than Bread Bar. It's more in the Flatiron district (It's on 18th and 5th) but still close to many subways. http://devinyc.com/ The decor is great for a date (Indian/Middle Eastern but not gaudy, just kinda sexy) and the food is deeeeeeeeelicious.

Thanks for all the advice! I'll let you guys know once I book it... :)

do you have a specific area of midtown? east-west..not above or below a certain street.

I don't get to NYC very often, and I'm not sure what "not too expensive" means, but last time I was staying in Midtown my colleagues and I got a table at Esca just by walking in and asking, and had a terrific meal. It's not cheap, to be sure, but it's not Per Se/Le Bernardin expensive either!
