What would you never eat?
The hot dog topic got me thinking about the food you would never eat. We all have certain veggies that we don't care for....myself it's brussel sprouts. What is the non-veggie food that you don't care for? I mentioned fois gras in the hot dog post....just can't bring myself to even try it. What about you?

"Never try" or "never eat again"?
In the "never try" category its nothing. I'll try anything at least once. Life is too short.
In the "never eat again" category - its technically a 'veggie' but I'm completely disgusted by tofu. Can't stand the texture, the taste, or the point.

The recipe is in this cookbook for the one thing neither my wife nor I will ever try: Rocky Mountain Oysters, which are Pan-Fried Testicles.
LunaPierCook at 5:39PM on 05/09/07
Blood sausage, any type of insect, and I'm with ThatGirl on her selections, too. Cow tongue? I think not. For a lot of things, I guess, it would depend on whether you knew you were eating it or not depending on the preparation.
Osuforia at 5:48PM on 05/09/07
Brain of any kind, eyeballs of any kind, feet of any kind, and things like intestines and stomachs. Lots of bugs, too.. There are some things that I just can't ever picture myself eating by choice. *shudder*
Oh, and LunaPierCook, Rocky Mountain Oysters really are not bad at all. They actually taste quite a bit like fried chicken. ;}
myzkyti at 5:56PM on 05/09/07
I had a tongue sandwich for lunch, and it was incredibly good. There's something, as well, to be said for eating foods that look like they were when alive... a rememberance of whence they came.
Joel at 6:53PM on 05/09/07
Myzkyti, I do believe I no longer like fried chicken ... ;-)
LunaPierCook at 7:09PM on 05/09/07
Insects---even if they were chocolate covered!
JEP at 7:21PM on 05/09/07
The society lady says to the butcher, "I'm having my bridge club over for a luncheon tomorrow. Do you have any suggestions?" The butcher replies, "We have beef tongue on special today." Society lady says, "Oooh, gross! I could never seve my friends something that came fron an animals mouth! Just give me a dozen eggs....I'll make a souffle'"

Andouillette. Tripe sausage which smells - and tastes - like the part of the pig it comes from...
Jules at 1:29AM on 05/10/07
I will never eat insects, brain, parts of stomach & gross things loke that.
mira at 1:48AM on 05/10/07
I don't do offal of any kind. We work hard we can afford good meat.
I also do not ever go near chitlins, tripe, tongue, gizzards, livers or beaks, feet of anything. I don't like caviar. I know some of you love it but I have tried it many many times many many qualities and it is not me.
I hate hate hate tuna. In a can, fresh all of it hate tuna.
potted meat product, vienna sausage, pasta in a can, frozen waffles, fois gras. Generic white bread.
JerzeeTomato at 2:04AM on 05/10/07
I'll try anything once, but I will never eat tapioca pudding again! I guess it's a texture thing. I also will never eat brains or gopher again...yuck. I don't know how I was ever convinced to eat them in the first place. It was definitely a dare of some kind...

-Casu marzu a.k.a. Sardinian Maggot Cheese
-Any offal, chitterlings (I'm from Tennessee and those jokers are just FOUL!), tripe, tongue, feet, brains, eyeballs, hog jaw, Rockey Mtn Oysters, Lamb Fries, blood sausages, insects.....
-Experienced beef tongue once and that was enough. Bit into a taste bud. That was a horrible day. *shivers*
-Not a huge fan of cavier either.
I so agree with JerzeeTomato: NO vienna sausage or potted meat, yet another staple in many Tennessee diets. I can't stand catfish, okra, sweet potatoes or yams either. I definitely grew up in the wrong area.
LOL@1stmakearoux's joke: That was a good one! :o)

Freshwater fish (and, yes, I've tried and tried, just don't like it). Anything moving--I edited a cookbook that had a recipe for live shrimp, the feature of which was feeling them move down your throat and into your stomach. Not for me!!!
Any fast food. My last venture into a McDonald's was five years ago, after driving three hours in the dark of a rural morning. I had a coffee.
BaHa at 8:45AM on 05/10/07
being french, i've eaten a bunch of stuff that my american friends would never consider eating. so i'd try pretty much anything. except for bugs... all those shows out now featuring overzealous hosts trying to mimic a certain celebrity chef, they can keep their mouthfuls of ants and beetles.
french tart at 8:48AM on 05/10/07
Have enjoyed rocky mountain oysters, Cabesa tacos, tongue,Pork cheek and chitlins but absolutely refuse to ever again eat rutabaga!
Colorado Jim at 9:05AM on 05/10/07
I have tried many things from snake and brains, to turtles and crickets.. I have a problem with the male genitals of any animal.. Thats pretty much where i draw the line.
NYBITECLUB at 9:21AM on 05/10/07
Dog is my personal no-go. It's still eaten in China and in the main cities it's sold as street meat on a stick.
JustNancy at 9:32AM on 05/10/07
Pretty much any animal part from any animal. I guess that I never really acquired a taste for it because now that I don't eat it, I just don't miss it.
kplays at 9:45AM on 05/10/07
I'm with NYBITECLUB - i stay away from the genetalia....ewwww

A meal in an over-priced, self-aggrandizing restaurant in New York City.
DocChuck at 10:34AM on 05/10/07
Insects, organ meats from ANY animal, snails. I cannot imagine biting into a snail.
AuntJone at 10:41AM on 05/10/07
I would never eat Kraft Jet-Puffed Marshmallow Creme.
My heart belongs to Fluff!
K at 12:23PM on 05/10/07
I would have to be really drunk to eat brains or monkey. Otherwise, I think I'd sample about anything. That's a dare...
NSW at 12:26PM on 05/10/07
Organs... or Snails... I hate the aftertaste...
pbisNOTmyname at 2:30PM on 05/10/07
I second the list of fast food establishments by DaveFaris above.
I eat most anything (insects, organs, etc) as long as it's fresh or prepared well, with the exception of the sadly long list of animals that are endangered - pandas, tigers, elephants, snow leopards, bears, etc. Those I would have to refuse.
hohnsolo at 2:48PM on 05/10/07
I'm an Indonesian, so I've eaten most things you guys stayed away from (intestines, brain, tongue etc.). I love beef tripe and lungs, but I hate the intestines. It's kind of strange since I dont really care for the meat. I just have a taste toward the extraordinary i spose. I do not like brain. period. I used to love tongue stew but the love is gone now.
However, I never tried genitals. Probably I would never, although if life has taught me one thing, it's never say never. Apart from that, I would never eat pet animals, you know cat, dogs, RABBITS.. Goldfish, though...
winny at 10:01PM on 05/10/07
okra.
cybercita at 11:37PM on 05/10/07
I don't do offal, with the exception of livers, of all things. Also, no bugs and just the thought of the maggot cheese mentioned above makes me gag. (*Turns head and takes a couple of deep breaths*)
In the veggie category I won't eat radishes, turnips, parsnips, rutabagas, okra, and canned green beans. I don't do very well with slimy things and I really hate morrells.
Calichef at 4:09AM on 05/11/07
I love all these things everyone else won't eat (except the fast food, of course). But for some reason coconut nauseates me. Just smelling that lotion on people in summer is nauseating, and coconut macaroons are g-ross. People find ways to ruin all sorts of good food with coconut! And coconut water - ugh. I went to Vietnam and we had to drink it, to stay hydrated because it's so hot that you need the electrolytes and minerals in it. But it got really frustrating, having to take it in every day. Also, sometimes mangos have a slight coconut flavor - ruining a wonderful mango - It makes me afraid to buy them, because I won't be able to abid them! The only way I've been able to stand coconut is in coconut cream pie, coconut custard pie and coconut frosting...probably because the creaminess dominates the coconut flavor.
