I like Middle Eastern/Near Eastern tidbits...falafel balls with tahini... hummus and baba ghanoush with pita triangles...stuffed grape leaves. Can't go wrong with chilled, fresh crudités accompanied by a garlicky dip.

spanikopita, Saganaki, hummus, fried everything.
The best wings I ever have were hot and garlic, loaded with fresh garlic.

I don't go to a bar for the eats; I go for the conversation and the drinks. And as for so-called classy food in a bar--feh!

i like pairing beer with good cheese. the blind tiger in nyc offers $9 beer/cheese pairings.
also a big fan of pickled eggs, if done in a subtle, smartly-spiced fashion. people's pint in greenfield, mass makes a terrific in-house pickled egg.. $1 i believe per.

My favorite bar is a waterfront chickee hut on Marco Island, FL., called "Jack's Lookout." Their claim to fame is Jack's Surf 'n' Turf, which is a cup of chowder and a hot dog.

There's a microbrew place down the street that makes "nachos", but it's really a hot layered dip of bean, chili, cheese, salsa, sour cream, tomatoes, and sliced pickled jalapeños with a big basket of tortilla chips on the side. An order of those with their signature housemade IPA (or 2 or 3) and I'm in heaven.

more of a bar snack than bar food, i like the tokyo mix they serve at the magician. it's one of the only bar snacks i bother with, everything else impedes drinking.

One of my favorite sushi restaurants is very popular so they have a cozy bar to lounge in while you wait for your table. I can't decide which I like better - the dining experience or waiting at the bar while eating wasabi peas with a beer!

j, my point exactly. If I am out for the food, I go to a restaurant. And, yes, the Tokyo mix at the Magician rocks...and doesn't interfere with the actual point of going to a bar!

They may not be classy but in Texas my favorite bar food are fried pickles!

Wings from Blondies on the far UES. I used to think Atomic Wings were good until I tasted these.
