What are everyone's food-related plans for cinco de mayo?

16 Comments:

For the 22nd year in a row I will be going out for vietnamesse eggrolls with my youngest daughter, born on that date. She has had eggrolls for her birthday every year including having them on her day of birth via her mom..also going to have Hoa Ga ...vietnamesse egg sodas...her birthday tradition continues

i wish i could celebrate by eating two giant (and most divine) chile rellenos homemade by my beautiful mother. my sister often beg her to make these treasures but, as they are such an intense labor of love (pasilla peppers roasted and skinned, stuffed, battered and deep fried), she only makes them on very special occasions and i think cinco de mayo would qualify. to have them with her pinto beans, rice, and slices of mango would be the most!

i forgot the sauce! she also most amazing red mole -- so spicy and the best part!

Eating Chipotle Skirt Steak Tacos

with some latin music on really loud and teaching my two little kids how to dance the Salsa!

a friend of mine told me that i ought not to celebrate cinco de mayo (as i'm french and the french lost the battle), but these are modern times. and i'll be more than happy to make food to celebrate, and drink a margarita or two (rocks, salt). i might try my hand at those tasty looking empanadas with chorizo listed on the home page.

We're going to a friend's Cinco de Mayo party at the beach. Homemade chili, refritos, fresh salsa, and large quantities of cerveza! Ole'!

enchiladas, sangria, and an aztec hot chocolate pudding cake. i can't WAIT for saturday!

A Brazilian friend's birthday this year. So caipirinhas and pao de queijo in place of Mexican fare. Still delicious! And a celebration.

The Home sick Texans tinga recipe sounds mighty good. I believe I'll try it this Saturday.

Thanks, Colorado Jim! It's also Derby Day so I was thinking about mashing the two together and making a cilantro julep or a mint bourbon margarita served with tinga on biscuits or pimento cheese flautas.

We're throwing a party with a combination of Mexican and French food. Starting with empanaditas, saucisson sec and radishes with butter and finishing with flan/crème caramel. We'll be making sangria using a fruity light Beaujolais.

I'm in Portland, OR, visiting my sister and her family this week. I'm sure I will have no problem taking them out for some of the many excellent Mexican offerings available here, such as the super-inexpensive and yummy Cha Cha Cha.

If I had to pick one cuisine to eat every day while here, it would surely be Mexican. As it is I'm sure I'll be putting on a good 10 pounds, but what the heck.

A friend invited me to a party where the only food item will be Margaritas. I'm told there will also be pirate hats, but I don't know why? Should be interesting...

A Porterhouse steak (from Giant Foods) with a twice-baked potato and a Caesar salad. I am NOT a mexican and I do not partake in their culture.

I am an American first, and a steak-and-potatoes guy second.
