Question of the Day: Summer 'street fair' foods

Street fair snacks can be unhealthy but so hard to resist! What are your favorite treats?

There's one particular falafel guy that's different from the run of the mill ones that I just flip over. Chunky crispy and yummy, you can get a sizable container (about 6-7 pieces) for about $3-4. But it's just this one special booth that my husband and I look for at every street fair.

Also amazing are the barrel pickle guys. We always stock up on those.

The real guilty pleasure if I haven't eaten for a while is the sausage and peppers -- right in the foil without the bun. Mmmmmm.....sausage.

sausage and peppers... mmmm..

Gorditas - little rounds of fried masa harina topped with beans, cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion, sometimes picadillo (ground beef and potato) too.
Washed down with jamaica tea (hibiscus flower tea).

Also fried pork rinds, hot out of the kettle. And roasted corn on the cob. And fruit cup topped with squeezed lime and chili-salt mixture. Can you tell I live in South Texas?

I'm a fan of the corn arepas filled with mozzerella. So good.
And also just corn on the cob...and funnel cakes.

I second the arepas and the funnel cakes. Plus Asian combos (Thai, Malaysian, etc) -- yum!

Funnel cakes, corn on the cob and of course I can never turn down nachos and cheese with jalopeno's.

Zeppole's, but light on the pwdered sugar.

"TurkeyLegs" at the Renaissance Faire(s)!

I'm not sure how they (the vendors) cook 'em. . . but they ALWAYS do it better than we can cook them at home, or buy from the supermarket.

Maybe it's just the atmosphere of the wonderful Faires that make the "legs" taste so darned good.

p.s. Maryland's and Pennsylvania's Renaissance Faires are great . . . but the ones in Missouri (St. Louis) and Texas (Houston) are the best in the country (IMHO)!

Beaver tails on the sidewalks of Old Montreal

Years ago, I remember how good Elephant Ears tasted. Does anyone try any of those battered & deep-fried snacks like--Twinkies & candy bars ?

Gyros.... yummy messy gyros. And the corn on the cob- where they dip the whole thing into a vat of melted butter.... messy!

i used to enjoy eating:
chicken kabobs w/ bbq sauce
hotdogs w/ everything
warm salty pretzels
