I've had lots of quinoa lately ... I haven't found it at all bitter. How are you preparing it?

You have to wash quinoa well before cooking to remove the bitter saponin that coats it.

I would recommend buying packaged quinoa vs. the stuff in the bulk bins. Bulk bin items require much more of a thorough wash, as I learned the hard way. Since I've been buying the packaged version at Trader Joe's, I don't have any problems and I wash it the same way I wash rice.

Yeah, wash it. Wash wash wash. And I agree with Clare, while I love the bulk bin, when it comes to quinwa what you saw at the grocery you probably pay back at the faucet.

Oops, make that "save" at the grocery

Thanks for the advice! I'll be sure to buy the packaged rather than the bulk.
Are there other items that are best purchased packaged rather than bulk?

Quinoa is one of the few things that I just don't like. It's like rice jello to me.
