Question of the Day: What are you doing for Memorial Day Weekend?

Going anywhere or just enjoying the long weekend at home? More important, what are you going to eat?

26 Comments:

I just had my wisdom teeth out, so I am busy doing almost nothing. I am, however, configuring a recipe for a cool, fruity smoothy including pineapple, banana, mango, coconut, and vanilla frozen yogurt. Probably some oj and sparkling water to make the consistency something I can handle.

Staying home, AWAY from the maddening crowds, slow-smoking a pork butt, and then preparing some of the best "pulled pork" this side of North Carolina.

Have a safe holiday, Serious Eaters!

I celebrated May 2/4 last weekend, and did alot of nothing. Stayed home to garden, did some baking. It was fantastic to do alot of nothing.

Chilling out at home. Hopefully BBQing a pizza or 4.

Here in NYC it's the very best time to get into both those "no reservations" restaurants without waiting on line with ginormous crowds - and to also get into places for Sunday brunch - so it's Spotted Pig and al di la for us tomorrow and Prune on Sunday. And the Metropolitan Museum on Monday.

Same as DocChuck although I'd like to think that mine is the best!

As we get into the blue crab season in the Mid-Atlantic, I'm taking a road trip down to Maryland for some crabs!

Gardening, probably cooking out Sunday w/friends, and then Monday w/family....not sure on the menu yet though......that pork butt sounds good!

CE, pulled pork don’t get any better than DocChuck’s ;>)

Come on over (here to Maryland, where the wife and I spend our summers, in Columbia). Our crabs are the best on the planet (even the two-legged crabs, like me!).

Burgers. Steak. Hot Dogs. ICE COLD beers.

savecara...I had my wisdom teeth out a few weeks ago. I was surprised how well it all went. I probably gained weight by eating this concoction: Double Rainbow Ultra chocolate ice cream (from Trader Joes) , softened and with a mixed in swirl of creamy Jif peanut butter. It was so delicious, it converted me from a crunchy peanut butter lover to a creamy peanut butter lover!

Homemade ice cream. And the first mojitos of the season with mint from the farmer's market, yum!

Stuffed Clams on the grill, portugese shish kabob, grilled sardines, Chourico. Ahh the tastes of summer, have a safe weekend!

The wife is in Caseville, Mi. for the summer so son and I will do some gardening this holiday weekend. I've planned on a slab of ribs for Sunday and a ribeye for Monday. Have a great weekend all!

Totonno's, Cyclone, Nathan's, Wonder Wheel.

We're doing as much of nothing as possible. I'll probably make some guacamole, bake some cookies, and make some shrimp. We also have a bunch of lovely spinach to make into salads. Oh, there are the mangoes...

On the job---working at a local hospital.

I'm puppy-sitting my grand dog. His family has gone out of state to a wedding. We're grilling a T-bone steak ... he gets the bone : )

Working and probably eating what I do every day at work - a spoonful of ice cream about every 10 minutes (working at an ice cream place has it's advantages!)

Grilling on Sunday and Monday. I want to see Doc's butt (show pics)
Having just come home from NC last week I am all cued out. So we will be doing chicken and corn and veggies, potato salad (my potato salad is a legend) and I am thinking of making a nice light sheet cake filled with fresh strawberries and a vanilla custard. I cannot look at banana pudding for another month after being in NC for a week.
We are spring cleaning today which means tearing everything apart and cleaning it and putting it all back.
It is time to sink your tomato plants people. Make sure if they are leggy that you bury them a bit.
Tomato plant thread, Adam weren't you going to grow this year?

Okay . . . when I get a good photo of my butt, how do I post it on this forum?

Haven't figured that out yet.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Doc

Well, I thought I would spend some time thinking about those who died in the service of our country. I have no interest in old people's posteriors, wisdom teeth, NYC restaurants, or puppy-sitting.

Although I would have a good laugh to see an old person's posterior, I want to see Doc's smoked pork butt. Pork butts turn me on, I am freaky like that.
As a former military wife I constantly think about the sacrifices that people make in defense of this great nation. I also am glad to report that our troops eat FABULOUSLY all over the world. Even in the desert. Our mess units serve our troops SERIOUS EATS round the clock inside and outside the green zone. Mess units are dedicated to the nourishing and presentation of food and on this memorial day, thanks for reminding me Lou, I am sending a big shout out to anyone inside and outside the US who feeds our troops. Bless you and thank you. Making fried chicken for 4000 is a huge job but you have done it with love and care and honor.

To those military families who have lost a love one, I send my love and prayers.

I am so jealous of all those who are either having amazing food or doing nothing...I'm getting ready to teach a section of public finance for undergrads for the first summer semester. Sigh...

"OLD people???"

You young whippersnappers should show MORE respect!

Have a great holiday, and I wholeheartedly agree . . . God bless our troops (past and present) . . . but NOT the jerk who sent them into harm's way.

Have a great weekend!

It's all over now, but we made our annual offering to the barbecue gods, and for once, it WASN'T BURNT! Will miracles never cease? Anyway, we made chicken kabobs with marinated mushrooms, onions, zuchini, red bell and grape tomatoes. They turned out great! Kudos to my son for the perfect grilling!
