Blue Bell ice cream in NYC? Bueller Bueller?

Total long shot, I know, since they only really sell it in the South. But if anyone's seen any in these parts, speak up!

I grew up down the road from the little creamery in Brenham and how I miss it! Unfortunately, they don't sell it anywhere close to NYC. You can order online (min. 4 half gallons) and they'll ship it overnight for $89. The northernmost place they sell it is Kansas City.

You can also get Round Rock Donuts overnighted for $75 a pop.

Ice cream overnight intrigues me, not $89 worth, but still intrigue.

Blue Bell's French Vanilla may be the best mass-produced ice cream in the country - and yes, Haagen Dazs and Ben & Jerry's qualify as "mass-produced."

Their banana pudding flavor is incredibly good - and I consider myself a connoisseur of banana pudding.

That is what I miss about going to my parent's. They always have 1-2 gallons of Blue bell in the freezer. I refuse to keep temptations like that in my freezer.

I actually meant their Homemade Vanilla (flavor's actually called that), but French Vanilla, if they make it, is also likely delicious. The fact that they probably make multiples of vanilla (I think there's a Vanilla Bean flavor, too) should tell you something...

I've toured the Blue Bell factory in Sylacauga, Alabama and it's pretty neat (the many samples given don't hurt either)!

Given their stringent quality control and claim that their ice cream was grass in the bellies of cows just yesterday, it seems unlikely they'll ever sell retail in NYC. Did you see that NY Times article last year, Lia?

''We make it all, we deliver it all in our own trucks and we maintain all the stock in retailers' freezers,'' Ed Kruse told my wife, Betsey, and me as we sat in the old-fashioned ice cream parlor at Blue Bell's headquarters, dreamily lapping up dishes of its best-selling product, Homemade Vanilla. ''Ice cream does not do well if it isn't handled carefully. The texture is ruined by any significant variation in temperature.''

Yeah, I was just hoping there would be a crazy Texan entrepreneur in the city desperate enough to get some over here somehow. *weeps*

they serve it at ruby tuesdays. i don't know if there's one in ny, but certainly in nj.

I've purchased it at the Super Wal-Mart stores, including one in Fredonia, NY....which is on the other side of the state from NYC...but still in NYS. I honestly don't know if there are any Super Wal-Marts over by NYC...but if you come across one, check it out, if only for that purpose.

i heard you can get very small ones at hill country for like 4 $ im talking about the personal size ones, not pints .

It's true, Hill Country does have this... I got so excited when I saw it on the dessert menu!!!
