Alfonsos in America! Where can I get some?
The times anounced today that Indian Alfonsos are finally coming into America. After eating a real, ripe, Alfonso in Mumbai a few weeks ago, I can't get it out of my head. The flavor was much more intense and lush than any mango I have ever had. In general I don't even like mangos. But these Alfonsos had an almost buttery mouth feel. I want them, I need them, and I need them now.
Where can I get them in New York?

I'm also very interested in the answer to this question! I've found some companies online that ship mangoes, but not to the U.S. :(

150 cases came in on Friday, but all apparently reserved by restaurants. If the US government had not imposed such a high tariff, we'd be eating those mangoes for breakast right now.

Here's the New York Times story.

The Indian mangoes are irradiated to eliminate pests before shipment. I am not sure if they will be labeled as "irradiated," however.
I haven't made up my mind about irradiation, but think that irradiated products should be labeled until we learn more about how ionizing radiation affects the foods.

Marc, I care about irradiation as well, but I have lusted for these mangoes for so long that I don't care if they were dipped in Martian pee and glow purple.
