Question of the Day: What's your favorite candy bar?

70 Comments:

Reese's Peanut Butter cups (not sure if that counts) so if not..........Butterfingers

Needhams (from Maine), the country's best potato-based candy! I don't know if they count, needham isn't a brand name but a type of candy. Otherwise, I opt for the Idaho Spud, which I discovered at Dylan's Candy Bar.

Two favorites, both from Cadbury.

One, Boost. It is SUPER CHARGED WITH GLUCOSE. It is essentially a giant, awesome Twix bar. You can find them at Dylan's.

Two, Dairy Milk With Creme Egg. Why this is not available over in the states, I have no idea, but it's a crime.

I have much love for the Mars bar, although Snickers will do in a pinch.
I also love frozen Charleston Chews, but they do a number on my dental work!

Milky Way Midnight, Cadbury Crunchie, and Violet Crumble.

But really, I like all candy bars. Oh, except Reese's PB Cups, and I may be the only person on the planet who isn't crazy about them.

Coffee Crisp! I used to have to travel over the border to get them from Canada, but a few stores around here have begun carrying them. Yum!

Dove milk chocolate bar. Also, not really a candy bar but MonCheri and those gold-foiled balls with hazelnuts and nutella type choco cream in them....can't think of what they are called.

Zero -- though I can't seem to find them in the stores anymore.

Skybar! Check out that 10-cent dark chocolate Skybar down in the corner. NECCO was way ahead of their time!
Also, I love KitKats.

Mounds. I wish they made a Mounds bar with almonds because it's the dark chocolate and coconut combination that makes a Mounds bar so good.

Caramello, Heath bars and - ready for this? - Twix. I know, trans-fat hell.

whachamacallit and 100 grand. old school american classics baby.

Whatchamacalit or payday

skor bar or smarties

Mounds, Almond Joy, Baby Ruth and Nestles chocolate with almonds. Any candy you want can probably be found at Economy Candy on the Lower East Side. I also wish they made Mounds with almonds, since I really prefer dark chocolate.

Oh, yeah, 100 Grand! Forgot how much I love it! (Hard to keep my candy loves straight, let alone the candy stashes I have in my house!)

Payday. Sweet & salty at its finest!

Zero bars are my favourite! ILOVE THEM!

Anybody remember Bobcat, Whiz, Zero, 7-Up?

Frozen Twix bars!!

Frozen snickers, without question.

VIOLET CRUMBLE...."It's the way it shatters that matters!"

snickers! recently, hershey's take 5. yum.

Pretty much anything with good dark chocolate and almonds.

Used to really like what I've been told was the "old" Mars bar. Then I bought a Mars bar imported from the UK, after someone told me it was still the old style, and found it to be much like a 3 Musketeers.

Anyway, the Mars bar that I remember was chocolate, almonds, and caramel.

Am I remembering that right, or am I way off track? Did the Mars bar change?

Kinder Bueno... or Aero... soooo tasty...

Reese's Sticks are excellent but harder and harder to find. Basically peanut butter cop flavor with less goo and a little crunch.

And I agree with Ed - if they put an almond in a mounds it would be about perfect. Seems such an obvious line extension - "dark chocolate almond joy" and "milk chocolate mounds" - in this era of line extensions that it's hard to believe they haven't done it yet.

I've never met anyone else who'll admit to liking it, probably cause it's apparently not made with real chocolate, but I do love Butterfinger. Nothing's better in a Dairy Queen Blizzard! Nothing!

Butterfinger is really good... Nothing tastes better at the movies...

Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate bar. I'm diabetic, so can't eat an entire one all at once, but I break off one of the little squares and let it melt in my mouth every other day or so.

A Cadbury Crunchie (or it's Buffalo, NY/Erie, PA regional variant of sponge candy) or a Dairy Milk Fruit & Nut bar.

i can't believe more people aren't saying my favorite, KIT KAT...i also love the Cadbury Flakes

Galaxy with hazlenuts.

Or Snickers.

kinder bueno! yummmm. and snickers.

whatchamacallit and 100 grand, both straight out of the freezer....
and i also love mounds.

So hard to pick one...

Twix - just the perfect flavor/texture combo

Bring em all on (well, except mounds bars, yuck)! Why isn't it Halloween everyday?

Wow-when I read the question nothing came to mind, and now I can't decide on a favourite! I think i have it narrowed down to Coffee Crisp, Skor or Twix...regardless, I eat them very rarely. Most often my chocolate fix is via Lindt 70% cocoa dark chocolate, and only one square at a time!

Zagnut and Cadbury Creme Eggs (its makes me sad that Easter is over)

My head hurts...Flake, Crunchie, Kit-Kats, Twix (my fave in college)! I love you all!

As a kid I liked Cherry Mash. Now I only buy dark chocolate gourmet bars like DeBrand

Crunchie is by far my favorite, closely followed by Peanut Butter Twix and Cadbury Top Deck

Don't have just one fave. Zero, Mounds, Snickers, not necessarily in that order. Now I'm thinkin' dark chocolate, I'm thinkin' almonds...someone stop me!

Is almond joy not the same thing as Mounds, but WITH almonds? I think I'm missing something. Aren't both made with dark chocolate?

Cadbury Mini Eggs, Ritter Sport with coconut, and that Milka bar that has the biscuit in it.

Almond Joy is made with pallid milk chocolate. In order to get dark chocolate, almonds, and coconut, you have to make them yourself. They're even vegan---and my son David used to eat 'em all up. The next time I make some maybe I'll send a few to Ed Levine!

I guess I'm a loner, but Fifth Avenue bars are to die for! If those things came in a hazelnut variety, I would do almost anything to get them. I also love raspberry filled Ghirardelli dark chocolate squares. Mmmmm. Oh, and those Terry's dark chocolate "whack and eat" oranges that I can only find at Christmas.

Bonomo's Turkish Taffy and it may be making a comeback.

If I did ever get back the ability to process sugar well, I'd have Ritter Sport, white chocolate with hazelnuts; York's Peppermint Patty; Butterfinger; and a Mounds bar. Probably not in that order. I'd most likely end with the Peppermint Patty.

Alas, my favorite candy bar has not been made for YEARS... Marathon Bar. Anyone remember this? It was a long twist of caramel dipped in chocolate. I think they stopped making it sometime in the early 80's. Second favorite, was the Reggie Bar.

Grampart--thanks for the news about Bonomo!!! Wow, I haven't been so happy since the Rangers swept Atlanta!

Just made a happy discovery! This site http://www.jackscountrystore.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=62 sells many of the hard-to-find candy bars (e.g., Zero, Violet Crumble, Spud) Serious Eaters are yearning for. It also has a huge inventory that includes some nifty kitchen gadgets and cooking accessories. Apparently they ship for a flat rate of five bucks for purchases under $250.

Chilled Snickers... Yum

Milky salty pretzel bar from Chocolate Bar in NYC. Salty-sweet goodness. Oh, yum.

Heath Bar, Reese's PB Eggs, Butterfinger, Snickers, Twix, Mars with almonds, Payday, BabyRuth, Ritter Sport with Rum and Raisins, Kinder Eggs, Clark Bars, and Skor Bars, Lindt anything, Dove anything, and Malley's Pretzel Chocolate Bars. Wow do I love chocolate.

I can't believe this isn't anyone else's favorite, but I just love the dark chocolate Rocky Road bars... chocolate covered, peanut sprinkled marshmallowy goodness. They're hard to find, though - most stores, if they carry Rocky Road at all, carry the milk chocolate kind in the red foil. The dark chocolate comes in a superior and lovely gold foil, and for a good reason. :)

Mounds will do in a pinch. Although we should start a letter-writing campaign to Peter Paul demanding almonds in our Mounds.

Wait, that's not peanuts in Rocky Road bars, that's actually CASHEW bits. How could I forget? I obviously need to eat more candy. Though it's a good thing for my waistline that they're hard to find.

Actually, I would think that Rocky Road bars would be easier on your waistline than any candy bars with lots of chocolate and/or peanuts/peanut butter. After all, Rocky Road bars are mostly marshmallow which are nothing more than whipped egg whites, sugar syrup and gelatin. Marshmallows are fat free. Rocky Road bars don't have enough nut bits to add much in the line of fat and protien, and the chocolate is thin and mostly used to glue the marshmallows together. Empty calories, to be sure, but a lower fat choice than most other chocolate bars.

Heath Bars - I love good toffee!

Reese's Fastbreak or 3 muskateers here!

A fresh Butterfinger that melts in my mouth

Skor Bars! Cruncy, chocoatey, and caramely... good with milk.

Snickers, Baby Ruth, Almond Joy. When I studied abroad in Austria in college, I developed a love of Milka chocolate bars, especially the ones with hazelnuts, and Mozartkugeln, though I don't know if that qualifies as a candy bar. I also LOVE Ferrero Rocher!

Frozen twix, frozen 100 grand
favorite candy (not bar): red vines, gummi bears, and twizzlers, all stale (or half frozen) so they're extra chewy!

Baboo - thank you for fabulous site you found! I just finished reading 'Candy Freak' by Steve Almond, wishing I could taste some of the bars he writes about and, and ... there they are, at reasonable prices and shipping! Even in Massachusetts it's hard to find a store to buy squirrel nut zippers. Valomilk, Abba Zabba, Coffee Crisp: there goes the diet!

Oh, and favorite candy bar? I used to love Fast Break, salt peanut butter and chocolate, but found it was hit or miss on the quality: it wasn't often that I got one from a batch that hit salty/sweet peanut butter perfection.

cadbury flake in all of it's flavors. It is soooo good.

Toblerone, Mallow Cups, Snickers with Almonds, Kit-Kat, Nestles Crunch with Toasted Coconut, Peanut M&M's, DARK chocolate(72% or higher), Mr. Goodbar, Krackle, Dove chocolate, Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs (at Easter), Symphony, Skor, Twix, Cadbury Mini Eggs, Baby Ruth, Butterfinger, Bit-O-Honey, Chick-O-Stick, Goobers, Smarties (the chocolate candy pieces in the tube from England), Hersheys with Macadamia nuts, Whatchamacallit, Zagnut.

Skor or Peanut Butter Cups. I use to like one when I was a kid it was about 10 inches long and like a series of figures 8's coated in chocolate. Can't recall the name, but it was good cold!
