Question of the Day: Did you watch the Food Network Awards last night?

If so, what'd you think?

Didn't watch it, but I did read the Anthony Bourdain rant about it. Hilarious.

I watched the award show last night. (blushing furiously) In my honest opinion I have to agree with Mr. Bourdain. I was amazed that it ever was seriously considered to be broadcast, never mind built up the way it had been in the previous few weeks! Please food network do NOT subject us to another "award show"!!!

I didn't watch it, had no urge to. I knew it would be a train wreck, and I had to look to see if Bourdain ranted about it. I was satisfied with what he had to say!

I had read Tony Bourdain's comments about it and avoided it like the plague.

Long enough to watch Sandra Lee and Bobby Flay give the award for best "Super" Market to Wegmans. Sandra Lee looked positively lost without a fake kitchen behind her. Painful, painful stuff. Food Network needs a serious programming intervention. It's not even fun to rant about this. It's just sad.

It went off the second Emril opened his mouth.

I made it to the introduction of Paula and son. However, I did like watching Giada.

Whut in the HAIL was Nigella wearing? Alton, standing next to her, looked like he was fearful of losing an eye. Or maybe the country boy figured that if he stood any closer it could be considered grounds for divorce. a sad, sad spectacle.

i had no interest in watching them.

besides, my happy ass was in bed by 8 pm. i couldn't keep my eyes open any longer.

Saw it in a pub with closed captioning. Husband, stepdaughter and I all began to shriek when they began to run a caption describing the sous chef as a sioux chief. That was q.s.

I'm sorry to say it, but the Food Network has lost its edge, and become boring. I also fell off my chair when I saw Nigella. What was she thinking? I believe if they don't get their act together soon, there's room for competition. The "award" show was just fluff.

No, I didn't watch it. Even the promos for it were cringe worthy. It's not too far off from the People's Choice Awards, though. "Favorite Food Combo?" Come on. It's barely above a blogging entry. Professionals don't need to stoop to our level.

I made it through Paula Dean and that zombie she calls a son waddling onto stage and squinting at the teleprompter before I lunged for the remote control to put on the "Finger Nails On A Chalkboard" channel.

I think I was watching Drive on Fox last night while color-correcting photos. I'm sure I'll have umpteen-many chances to catch it again in rerun.

My wife and I caught it between taking care of the little one. Hands down one of the worst, absolute worst pieces of TV, we've seen. We both couldn't figure out what the hell we were watching and why we cared. I think if they wanted to do something like this... how about broadcasting the James Beard awards or something more like it.... oh I know why? Because they wouldn't be able to run many of their talent out there-- Semi-Homade anyone?

No, I had no interest in the broadcast. I also read the Bourdain comments.

For about 10 minutes. I was stunned. The Food Network continues its downward spiral. Thought Bourdain's comments were a hoot!

Nope. Saturday Night Fever happened to be on at the same time. Vinny Barbarino in polyester trumps red carpet Rachael Ray any day.

I have a feeling that this horrible spectacle may cause some changes at the food network...it was that terrible. It was so bad (and I only watched for 1/2 hour) that I cannot believe it was greenlighted. "Hey, I have a great idea, lets invent a bunch of stupid categories that nobody cares about and parade our talent out there" The categories were a joke. Why not actually celebrate chefs instead of pulling categories out of some Food network execs ass? Why not have the best restaurant? The best chef (national and regional like Beard)? Just because 99.9999 percent of your viewers will never eat at Alinea or The French Laundry doesn't mean that they don't want to hear about places like them and the people behind them.

Nigella was the highlight of the show. By far.

I forced myself to watch it. And yes, it dragged to the point of despair, with irrelevant product placements and corporate invasions galore.

In my opinion, FoodTV has lost it's competitive edge. The network is so focused on self promotion that they are missing the drama of food. In my opinion, the best food related show on TV is Top Chef - and how did Bravo beat Food TV at their own game?
