Good places to eat in Las Vegas?

Hey there-

I live in Vegas and don't know many good places.. surely there's gotta be some!

Matthew, do you want fancypants places or funky but good restaurants?

Funky but good! This place it full of fancypants overpriced and not so good places to eat...

Lotus of Siam is thought to be one of the best Thai restaurants in the country. I ate there when it was located in southern California. It's at 953 E. Sahara Ave., 702-735-3033.

Also Burger Bar at the Mandalay Bay Hotel is supposed to be really good. Jeff Steingarten thought it was terrific.

Are you kidding? When I lived in Vegas I loved eating out (and that was last year, so it wasn't that long ago). So many good places to eat! For funky, try the Mediterranean Cafe (& Hookah Lounge) on the corner of Maryland and Flamingo.

I mean yes, there are lots of overpriced restaurants with bad food in Vegas, especially on the Strip. But there are just as many great small local places -- you are so lucky to be living there!

Personally, I'd rather get a great brunch than a good "breakfast-lunch-dinner"...especially in vegas....

So my fave is the Champagne Brunch at the Bellagio buffet. Last time I was there it was like 25.00 or 30.00. Not only was the food fresh and of high quality, but the champagne was flowing continuously...a great value.

They have made to order breakfast dishes (eggs, pancakes waffles, etc...) plus a full array of typical (an some a typical) brunch buffet type dishes.

One of the most memorable features was the island of "brunch antipasto"...Cheeses: brie, blue, chevre, huntsman, etc....meats: proscuitto, smokes ham, sausages, etc....Olives, fresh fruit, breads, pickles, smoked salmon, etc....

Unlike a lot of the "old country buffet" type operations in vegas, this place delivers quality & value....Since the city thrives on staying out late, sleeping in and grabbing "breakfast" at 1:00 in the afternoon....getting a good brunch is essential...and this place is tops.

Best memory...the service is unlike any buffet place I've been to. I remember that the server was going off shift...and was worried that there might be a delay, so she filled our champagne glasses...then brought a second round as a back up....as she said...."just in case they get backed up during the shift change...."

Like all the restaurant operations at the Bellagio, this is a class act...don't let the word "buffet" fool you....

I second the notion of Lotus of Siam. I ate there last year and it was the best Thai food I've ever had.
