At home, do you encourage your mate to cook with you?
My husband and I don't eat a lot of the same things, but we do enjoy cooking together, albeit separately.

I encourage him to express appreciation and to get the dishes done. (Actually he needs little encouragment in either department...I've lost some beautiful pan sauces and fonds to his eagerness to stay caught up! Lost drippings aside, I am a lucky woman!)

How big is your kitchen? I would find it really difficult to cook two separate meals at the same time. We do cook together and it's lovely - now that summer is coming up, he gets to grill and I get to do side dishes. :)

Beth and I have an agreement: I cook; she eats; I clean up!

My dear husband, loves to cook with me. Like toastyktten said we have a big kitchen. This also brings back the old topc of kitchen bully, which I am.
He doesn't love to see that. Usually I ask him to do what his skill set will allow. After years of living with me he has a great skill set. Every holday or specal meal would not be amazing without his help. We do it all, bake, grill, cook and then we both do the dishes. Food is love, you can quote me.

We have three cooks and two kitchens. My mother-in-law makes Puerto Rican food in her kitchen, and I make Italian food in mine. My wife does all the grilling (and she makes a mean meatloaf). We each make different types of food, so we seldom cook together, but my wife does help me with the labor intensive stuff, like stuffed shells. For my kitchen, I do all the cleaning.

NO! I jokingly have an imaginary line in the kitchen that my husband is not allowed to cross. For one thing, the cooking area is much too small for 2 people...and for another, my husband thinks that toasting bread for a sandwich is "too much trouble", so our cooking styles are def. not the same!

I agree with ThatGirl: my kitchen is too small and my hubby is a bull in a china shop. We bump into each other and there isn't enough counter space for both of us to do prep work. He enjoys grilling, though, so in the summer he's on the deck and I'm inside hogging the kitchen.
