Anybody ever hit up the Red Hook ball fields?

There was an article last summer in the Times about the amazing variety of Mexican, C. American, S. American & Caribbean food at the Red Hook ballfields in Brooklyn---Has anyone ever made it out there? Please share if so..I can't wait for warm weather to come to NYC to hit up the ballfields!!

I haven't yet, but a friend of mine went out there with his girlfriend last summer and says the food is divine. Getting out to Red Hook is a pain but apparently well worth it!

I'm lucky enough to live pretty close to Red Hook. I only made it out there once last summer, but as soon as it warms up I expect many Saturday lunches there. I have fond memories of the watermelon juice and corn on the cob with queso! Making the trip is totally worth it.

Yes. Go if you like extremely fresh and awesome homemade food of all varieties. I tutored a woman in english who makes some of the best ceviche I have ever had. It can be a pain in the ass to get there, but there is so much to do besides the ball fields (i.e, walk along the pier, check out The Good Fork or 360 - amazing restaurants, have a drink at Sonny's, etc.).

It's VERY well-worth the trip - maybe the best Mexcian and Central American food in the city - especially Salvadoran pupusas and the best huaraches anywhere.

The ballfields open for the season on April 28th.

wow thanks so much everyone. thanks especially live to travel for the porkchop express referral. what a fabulous guide. i am itching for us to kick this nasty cold weather and get outdoors!

am a big fan of street food and this to me sounds like it is nyc at its finest--kicking back, eating delicious food and getting to know your neighbors. watching serious football doesn't hurt either! thanks again--i think the serious eats team should go on an office field trip when the fields open and document it up for all of us!!

I went last fall and it was amazing. One of the greatest, most honest eating experiences left in NYC. I have some photos as well that I'll post.
