What Kitchen Gadget have you re-purposed for an alternative use?
Today I picked up a $3.99 folding metal vegetable steamer at Target. It works perfect to hold woodchips on the grill when I want to smoke the food. It actually works better than the smoke boxes sold at dept. stores, crate & barrel or with the grills at Target. I am curious what other people have re-purposed as a better & cheaper alternative to high priced gadgets?

For a million years my family's been using a biscuit cutter as a choper for tuna, chicken, and egg salad. Yummy.

I use a pizza cutter to quickly chop up herbs rather than a mezzaluna knife and board or one of those herb choppers that looks like a handheld food mill.
I hadn't thought about the veggie steamer basket for wood chips before. I like that a lot and will have to try it.

I have one of those round rubber grippers for opening jars....If you roll a garlic clove in it the peel comes right off.

Coffee filters used to line a sieve make great yogurt cheese strainers.

I use a pastry blender for almost everything except for blending pastry. It's good for mashing bananas or avocados, slicing eggs for salad, or mixing all sorts of things.
