What is the best food you have ever had while on vacation?

One of the best parts of traveling is discovering local cuisine. For me, the most memorable meals I ever had were in New Orleans, Maine and Italy. More specifically, beignets, crawfish poboys, catfish stew, lobster stew, blueberry pie, pear tortellini with gorgonzola cream sauce, ribollita...I can go on and on..What were some of your most memorable meals while traveling?

Wow, great question. I've had great food at the Austin Creek Grill at the tip of Hatteras Island on OBX and there was something about that first In-N-Out Burger when I was in LA last fall. But the best food I've ever had on vacation was a few years ago in Cabo San Lucas. The first night there we had dinner at Mi Casa, one of the area's best restaurants: avocados filled with a cold salad made from bay scallops, chopped tomatoes, onions and herbs and a perfectly grilled filet of carne asada served alongside beans, rice and guacamole. The next day, though, we were out walking around the old town part of Cabo and stumbled upon a hole in the wall place called Taquiera el Venido (or something like that). Amazing homemade salsas, a sausage soup that was incredible, and a trio of tacos (beef, pork and fish) that I'd get on a plane and go back for right now. The cheapest meal of the whole trip and easily the best.

Empanadas Dulces and the Cuban Style Bistec at Calle Ocho in NYC last month.
Hamburguesa con guacamole at an all-inclusive (believe it or not) in Cabo, November 2005.
Tres leches cake in Costa Rica, 1994.

Cakes and pastries in Vienna--they came in endless varieties of deliciousness.

Lobster Rolls from a little shack on Cape Cod

Blueberry pie in Bar Harbor, Maine

-a street tajine in fez morocco
-the mushroom soup at Chez Janou in paris (2 rue roger verlomme)
-brunch at a restaurant by the bosphorus in istanbul

The most insane crabcake ever in Baltimore. Not a speck of breadcrumb.
