Richmond VA Restaurants
I'd like to send a gift certificate to friends in Richmond for a nice dinner, but know nothing about the restaurant scene there. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Dale Reitzer, the chef at Acacia, 3325 W. Cary St., Richmond, VA, Phone: 804-354-6060, was one of Food & Wine's Best New Chefs in 1999. I just called the restaurant and he is still there. That is always a good sign.

Excellent! Confirmation! I was leaning toward Acacia based on my triangulation of information from various websites, but the fact that you landed in the same place makes me feel like my deductions have some basis. Thanks for checking this out for me! I would promise to report back, but I somehow doubt that my friends would give a place they went to as a gift from me a fully objective review.

As a former Richmonder, I can vouch for Acacia. Last time I went was this summer--great place.

I'm a wine rep in Richmond, VA... Here's some recommendations:
Steak house - Buckhead's
Very fancy French food - One North Belmont
Trendy - Can Can Brasserie (very Balthazar-like)
Italian - Azzurro
All are locally owned and operated. Check www.Richmond.com for more info on most of them.

Acacia is a great restaurant. I never had a bad meal there. But for something very fancy and romantic - 1 North Belmont.
