Are you trying to remember one in particular, or looking for recommendations of places that do this?

East (366 3rd Ave, between 26th and 27th St) does conveyor belt sushi. It's not the best sushi for the money, but it is fun.

Thank you Alaina. A friend is trying to dupe her 9-year-old into eating more sushi, so perfection isn't a priority.

LOL @ anyone trying to dupe a child into eating more sushi. Too funny! When it comes to children in my acquaintance, either they like it or they don't. If they don't, why coerce them into eating a food that could be dangerous for them?

My godfather sneakily got me addicted to raw fish by frequently taking me to a very, very good Japanese restaurant for lunch and ordering sashimi among many small plates, starting out with salmon (since I liked smoked salmon) and then going on to get different kinds of fishes I was also familiar with like fatty tuna and mackerel. I think it worked because sashimi felt less alien than sushi to me as a kid (not that big of a leap from cold cuts?), there was no pressure to eat just the one thing, and also the quality of the fish was exceptional—I don't know if I would've come to like it so much if my first experiences had been of lesser fish. Now I get giddy like a child if anyone even mentions uni to me!

I too am confused. Can you explain why your friend wants her kid to eat more sushi?

We take our 6yr old daughter to sushi restaurants all the time. We don't let her eat raw fish, but she loves the cooked stuff like eel, shrimp, calif rolls, etc... And we always sit at the counter, so she can watch the chef work. This way we all enjoy the experience without anyone making a sacrifice.

her child just needs a healthier diet, so she's exposing him to different kinds of food. it's not like she's stuffing blowfish down his neck or anything :)

Norman, that last comment made me laugh! I love sarcasm with a smile!

You'll need to check if this place still exists since the last time I visited was YEARS ago. Tsunami (it was near Washington Sq. Park).
