Just disgusting...

I've never been a diet at all. I've been on a couple of diets, but I've never been a diet.

How does one become a diet?

Thanks for the catch, question corrected. Carry on!

Atkins. Ineffectual for someone trying to lose only five pounds, and my mouth felt greasy all the time.

The cabbage soup diet. Awful.
jbrach at 10:01AM on 03/28/07
the one i'm on right now ayurvedic--no spicy foods, no tomatoes, no ALCOHOL, no dairy, no white sugar, no white flour--basically nothing tasty

The cabbage soup diet has to be the worst, my girlfriend at the time actually made the soup, I tried it the soup with her. It tastes like dirty feet if it were wrapped in a even dirtier Ass, wrapped in Patrick Ewing's sweatbands.

!!! Funny you should ask: last week, my boyfriend and I decided to do the Master Cleanse.
I made a 32-ounce bottle of the elixir (water, lemon juice, Grade B maple syrup, and a healthy dose of cayenne pepper) for him to take to his early morning job, with simple instructions: "sip very sloooowly, about 8 ounces per hour, and drink lots of plain H20 in between."
Overzealous, he guzzled the entire bottle in about 20 minutes, spent the next two days puking acid, and ended up in the ER on day three with the doctor diagnosing him as having an "unfavorable reaction to the high, sudden dose of cayenne pepper, a stomach irritant." Now he says I ruined lemonade for him.
Can you guess what my four-word response to that whole episode was? >:o

I was more or less forced down the Atkins highway by an ex-girlfriend who was doing it. She wouldn't eat anything I cooked otherwise, and I even though I didn't need to diet, I went along or the sake of convenience. That was pretty nightmarish; luckily she (and her carb-hating diet) didn't last very long.
After just seeing the first ten comments, I'm now officially never going on another diet. Ever. Now excuse me, I'm going to go eat some chicken-fried butter or something.

french tart, in brightest day, in blackest night, no blatant mangling on the English language shall escape my sight.

My worst diet was the divorce diet. You know, never hungry, always nauseous, way too much wine, way too little water. Although I became somewhat of a rail, I don't recommend it to anyone. :-)

The poor & overworked student diet. Ramen, Nature's Valley granola bars, soft pretzels, coffee and the occasional hot dog from a food truck. And I wondered why my iron was so low when I tried to donate blood.

Atkins makes me psychotic.

a la mode, it's not funny at all, but I can't stop laughing at what your boyfriend did!!! A friend of mine does that every now and then, she hates it, and makes it about half way most of the time!!!
I never did the atkins, but I could never understand it, in college my coach told us all to eat carbs, esp. after a workout!!!

The Cambridge diet - an early liquid diet, in 1982-ish when I was 11. It tasted horrible. I did lose 20 pounds though! They came right back when I started eating food again.
AdamH at 10:12PM on 03/28/07
I've never really been on a diet but my wife did Atkins for a while and I got sucked in around the edges. I could deal with pretty much anything BUT the no caffeine. She was making (ugh) decaf in the morning and after about two days I just couldn't take it.
Hungover Gourmet at 7:14AM on 03/29/07
Oh g-d, yeah. Cambridge was bad.
I've done them all; lotions and potions and liquids and pills... you name it. If it didn't involve surgery, I've done it.
The cabbage soup diet was pretty darned good in comparison to that. I mean, all the vegetable soup and brown rice you want is a pretty good deal when you're on a diet.
Atkins was awful. Tasty, but awful. The first time I did it the only sugar substitute was sacharine, Sugar Twin, to be exact. Horrible stuff! By the time I tried that one again, there was Splenda! *cue celestial choir singing The Hallelujah Chorus* Still, I just couldn't reconcile popping Lipitor and eating bacon cheeseburgers, protien style.
It took a long time, but I finally realized that a sensible low-fat diet was really the way to go. At least half of what I ate had to be fruits and vegetables, a quarter protien and a quarter whole grains combined with some seriously intentioned movement was the only way. Not that I always follow my own advice.
Oh, and one more thing:
Come on Nelson5757, don't hold back! Tell us how you really feel.

I've never been on a diet as such, but in the late 70's my mother was on the carrot stick diet - which is exactly what it sounds like. After a while, the palms of her hands turned orange. That's when she gave it up.
caley at 9:20AM on 03/29/07
Sarah--the best part was him jokingly telling the nurses in the ER that I tried to poison him! Since I was just doing the cleanse with him to be supportive, it ended up a good excuse for me to quit, too. And from now on, he's on his own!
I've done the South Beach diet, turned into a rail, had a ton of energy, and was generally OK with consuming a diet limited to eggs, low-fat dairy, and veggies in order to slip into ridiculously tiny outfits....until I tasted homemade pizza again....mmm.
