I really think that kitchen gadgets need to be extinct. Alot of my friends and family know I am a cook, and are constantly giving me to goods on the latest new toy. "Oh great, a new fabulous way to chop garlic" is all I can usually say. Most kitchen gadgets create a lazy cook. Alot of people I know that are fabulous cooks, have no idea how to slice and dice, chop, knead doe, mince, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love my kitchen aid...But most gadgets have been re-invented over and over again. I say enough already!

Hehe. I was about to write: 'a machine that washes the dishes.' Then I realised that such a machine has already been invented, it's just that I haven't got one. Otherwise, I agree with Lilartist. I prefer to just grab a knife and dig in instead of fiddling around with endless gadgets.

A kitchen gadget that is useful AND self cleaning. If it is a bitch to clean, it just sits in my drawer.

i agree with Lilartist. i dont want any more kitchen gadgets. every christmas we get a boatload of garlic presses and other unuseful items. i know the gift givers mean well, but i'll be damned if i will ever use one. in fact, a friend recently helping me in the kitchen for a dinner party was shocked that we didnt have a garlic press and exclaimed, "Now i know what to get you for christmas!" . it was all i could do to deter her from doing so.

I am not "allowed" to buy any more gadgets without forsaking my other ones. Last month I cleaned out my cupboards, drawers and pantry of all gadgets that had not been used in 2 years (a wise philosophy). I threw out my old ice cream maker and bought a new one. I went through my pots and pans and threw out those that were just hanging on for dear life.
I don't need gadgets I need an organizer for my gadgets. Is that gadget by proxy.

I think there should be kitchen lasers for slicing and dicing....quick, easy , accurate and no cleaning! But watch out for your fingers.

My grandmother wanted someone to invent a clove gun, which would shoot cloves into a ham. Is anyone out there working on this?

A peelable cutting board.
You know, you use it once, then peel off and throw away the top layer, revealing a clean new surface, bereft of odor, ready for more cuttin', choppin', and slicin'.

I'll have to jump on the "no more gadgets" bandwagon, simply because I don't have space for any. Give me sharp knives over a specific-use tool anyday!

I agree- no more gadgets! I have a friend who works for a high end kitchen gadget company. She is constantly giving me freebies as she know I like to cook. In the last MONTH she has given me a melon-baller, cherry pitter, cheese slicer thing, pickle grabber. The best thing she gave me is a great serrated bread knife. I am running out of room!

The kitchen equivallent of the Roomba . I want something that cleans my kitchen when I'm not in it. This way if I have a big party or I put together a late meal, I'm not staring at the dead soldiers that need cleaning. I know it won't improve my cooking directly, but I sure would enjoy it even more when it was beautifully clean when I came back.

Whatever will clean my kitchen after dinner and make my children's school lunches for the next day is the gadget for me!
mild_adventurer at 1:01PM on 03/02/07
What Husband said! I would cook ten times more if there was a machine to clean up after me.
lia at 1:34PM on 03/02/07
I'm with Husband and lia, a self-cleaning kitchen would be awesome!

Something that cleans a box grater without getting shredded.
Actually, I would just be happy if things that we already had came apart easily, had user replacable parts, and lasted a long time.

pickle grabber
That's got to be one of the most useless gadgets I've ever heard of. What's wrong with your fingers? Or a fork or a skewer? And I agree with the non-gadgetarians here: no more gadgets! Specialized tools for one task waste precious room in my kitchen.
megnut at 12:22PM on 03/03/07
As Alton Brown says, "no uni-taskers!" -- although admittedly I do have a few in my own kitchen. I'd simply like to learn to cook better with fewer "gadgets"!
Jeana at 1:21PM on 03/04/07
Yes! Self cleaning kitchen! My god, if I can have that I'll actually cook more often than once a month!
