Yes, I posted the question about the perfect Rueben. I am going to make Ruebens, fries and the Guiness Chocolate cake for dessert! Can't wait to try it!

There is a parade that passes right in front of our house here in New Orleans. So, therefore, we are having a party. I am doing a bunch of things, but the most Irish that I am going is that I am making these potato things. I am taking baby potatoes and making little cups out of them, I am then adding a little bit of sauerkraut and then a braised beef that I'll be doing in guiness. I am then going to drizzle it with a horseradish/grain mustard mayo. I hope it comes out okay as I made it up myself and haven't tried them yet. If they don't, there will be plent of brats...

I'm having a few people over for an irsih buffet:
Guinness Stew
Corned Beef & Cabbage
Potatoe, leek & bacon soup
Dill soda bread with salted butter
Cranberry Sweet Soda Bread or Scones with honey butter
Lots of Guinness!
And we're watching the Old Disney Classic from childhood: "Darby O'gill and the Little People" to get us really silly before going out!

Well, since it's also Lent, I can't have (a) corned beef (or any meat other than seafood) and (b) alcohol. So I guess I'm having potatoes :(

Make champ then. Traditional Irish mashed potatoes and spring onions. Lovely. I'm to serve it with roasted haddock.

Femmebot, St. Padraig's Day is on Saturday, so Lent shouldn't interfere this year.. last year, they gave out "special dispensations" to Irish Catholics, too.. ;}
A friend and I are hosting a Celtic feast, and I'm in charge of the meatatarian main courses, so I'll be making Irish Stew (I can't believe how hard it is to find mutton!) and Irish Bacon and Cabbage. I may also be making colcannon, but someone else had mentioned wanting to bring it, so we'll see.
And beer! Lots of beer :}

I'd never heard of champ until recently, including this recipe for it on Coconut & Lime.

We had our potluck at work today....I did corned beef that I did in the slow cooker with Sam Adams Cherry Wheat beer (it was already in the fridge). I also baked a ham with beer, and did sauteed cabbage.
Right now there are alot of full & happy people walking around the office!
:-)

Oh! I never heard of champ either. Thanks for the tip. And thanks for setting me straight on what day St. Patrick's day falls on -- I swear, I haven't been drinking!

Colcannon, made with Canadian bacon. Perhaps brown bread, if I'm feeling really ambitious (or it's still snowing)!

Everthing sounds so good!
We put beer in the shepherds pie and made a potato salad, tinted green by a dressing of mashed arugula and whole-egg mayo. And drank heaps of beer.
