Prix fixe lunch at Del Posto

I remember reading somewhere about Ed Levine's amazing discovery of a really fabulous prix fixe lunch at Del Posto--Ed if you're reading, or if any other community members recall--please do tell. How delicious and how affordable is it? I did a search on SE's site and couldn't find it. Thanks!

It's actually the prix fixe dinner at Del Posto Enoteca and it's $41 according to the website, and an additional $19 for the wine pairings. I haven't been yet, but I understand it's very delicious (I'm sure Ed will chime in to confirm). The Amateur Gourmet posted about his recent visit.

Gosh dinner..even better--thanks Alaina!

And do go for the wine pairing, if you like wine. We had them and the value was insane. It was four full glasses, one with each course, and they were from nice bottles. Considering a single glass at most places is $10-$12, you can't beat 4 for $19! And the food was great too. The whole thing is really an incredible deal.

Speaking of dandy prix fixe lunches, Fleur de Sel in Flatiron has a pretty decent deal ($25).

Any other tips on similar deals? I think I agree with Meg about sticking to wine pairings; it's a considerable value, especially if you enjoy drinking a fair amount with a fine meal. We opted for it at Fleur de Sel -- I had a remarkable dessert pairing which took me completely off guard -- I believe it pushed it up to $40.

My wife and I followed Ed's advice on this back when he made his original post, and we've been back a couple of times since. The menu is limited but quite delicious, and the wine pairing is indeed a great value. One of the best things about the Enoteca is the fact that they only take reservations on the day-of. We've had no problems whatsoever getting a table whenever we've wanted, it's just a matter of calling when the reservation line opens in the morning.

I'm glad people have been enjoying the $41prix fixe at the Enoteca at Del Posto. It truly is a great deal. Empath is right. It's great to be able to make a reservation at a world-class restaurant on a day's notice. Do take note of the fact that everyone at the table has to order the prix fixe. And it is a lot of food.
But they will pack doggie bags for you.

After reading several positive comments and raves about Enoteca’s affordable 4-course prix fixe and accompanying wine pairing, we decided to check it out last weekend. The day before our planned night at Enoteca, my husband and I looked at the menu online to get an idea of the choices and agreed that, while the menu was a bit limited, the accompanying wine pairing made it a steal. We had no problems making a reservation on short notice.

When we arrived and looked over the menu, the prix fixe had been updated to $45. No big deal. The waitress also informed us that the prix fixe had changed in that only two pastas could be selected per table. While this would be more limiting for a party of 6, for example, since there were only the two of us this new twist didn’t affect us. However, when I asked about the wine pairing she said, “Oh, we don’t do that anymore.” I told her about how only the day before their website still advertised the $41 prix fixe with a $19 wine pairing. She insisted this couldn’t have been THEIR website. I assured her it was delposto.com. Long story short, there was no budging on this. To make matters more frustrating, most of the wines by the glass offered averaged around $15 or more per glass. So basically to get the same dining experience you were looking at nearly double the cost.

We’re not cheapskates but we were disappointed that Enoteca wouldn’t honor what they advertised. Today, almost a week later, their website still hasn’t changed. Our food was still good, but had we known the true menu ahead of time we would have probably tried to go to Lupa. It might not have been less expensive, but at least we would have had more choices, a better atmosphere, and wouldn’t have left feeling like we’d been cheated.
