Olive Oil!
I use extra-virgin pretty much every day. What's a GOOD, relatively-priced olive oil for everyday use?

If you have a Trader Joes near you, they have a good selection of olive oil and the prices are great.

For salads and drizzling or for cooking?

Sorry, should have specified. For cooking.
And yes, I do have a Trader Joe's relatively close by (Union Square), so I'll make sure to check that out.

Fairway usually has a "tasting table" with pieces of bread available, so go taste! Never been to Trader Joe's, but I suspect they would have the same. I like Carapelli--it doesn't kill my budget and it has good flavor. I use it just about every day too. Maybe your local market manager would set up a tasting of different oils with some good bread--it doesn't hurt to ask.

I tend to buy extra virgin Colavita for everyday. I only splurge when the olive oil itself is going to be a dominant taste component. If I'm cooking something with a lot of strong flavors, I can't taste the diffrence between cheap and expensive oils.

What do you buy when you want to splurge? Have you ever tasted more expensive oils? At a food show, i tried more expensive oils and the difference was amazing. I can see why they are sold like wine!

I'm completely inconsistent. I don't splurge that often, so I buy something different each time, as the wallet permits.
I think the real trick for a lot of us in the hinterlands is to find a shop that moves enough oil to keep fresh stock on the shelf.

I guess that might be a good reason to order online. I've purchased some and occasionally sent gifts from www.olio2go.com . There's a fair number of bottles under $30. I could live on salads and I really like their Titone and Gourmet Sardinia Fruttato.

I really like Luccini a lot for a full flavored olive oil, but am still working on finding a good organic oil for daily cooking use.
For a real splurge, I love the Trebbiano extra virgin, but I actually got my first bottle right from the castle, and the second from a local supplier that (amazingly) knew the family personally and imported small batches.. I doubt it's anything readily available, unfortunately.. It's the best olive oil I've ever tasted.

I like Luccini and Trader Joe's Sicilian for my everyday oils. I'm curious about which Trebbiano Extra Virgin. Is that the same as Frantoio Franci Le Trebbiane from Tuscany? I have Frantoio Franci's Villa Magra Gran Cru and it's a world away from anything else.
