Is Pinkberry any good? What about Yolato?

All of my Cali friends have been buzzing about Pinkberry? Is it any good?
Same with Yolato. They're opening up a Yolato in my neighborhood, and the corporate rap plastered on the storefront seemed silly and self-important. So, serious eaters, who has tried Pinkberry? Or Yolato? Serious Eaters want to know.

As for Pink Berry, I didn't enjoy it. Both the original and green tea flavors are too tart for my taste. In fact, I'd be surprised if there is any sweeteners in the fro-yo at all. Some may love this, but I was hoping for a sweet dessert.

Their toppings, on the other hand, are top notch. They have a great selection of fruit and an interesting selection of sugary toppings (I went with a banana/coco pebbles combination). If you want to see all of them, their website lists all the toppings.

In the end, I found it more wholesome but less satisfying than Tasti-D. Considering how expensive it was, I don't plan on going back ($5 + tax for a small with two toppings).

I've had Pinkberry a few times and I do like it, I'm a big fan of tart yogurts. If anything, I'd prefer it if their yogurt was MORE tart and that the green tea flavor was stronger—also if they were a buck or two cheaper! Fortunately the nearest one to me is two miles away and I don't go to that neighborhood very often, so it's not going to be bankrupting me anytime soon.

P.S. People like capndesign who like their yogurt to be sweet desserts can just keep going to old stalwarts Tasti-D or TCBY! Tart is in!

I've only been to Pinkberry. The texture is too icy for my taste.

Completely agree with capndesign above! Toppings are amazing and you feel like you're eating a 'healthy' dessert, but it's a little pricey and definitely not as satisfying as Tasti-D. Or Cold Stone ;)

I do like Pinkberry and maybe that's because I am not looking for an ice cream substitute. I find it refreshing and tasty. I tend to stick with fruit toppings but cap 'n crunch is a treat when I want something sweet to balance out the tartness.

Apparently, there is another company/brand called Red Mango, claiming Pinkberry copied off of them.

I love plain pinkberry - it's has a taste that reminds me of my asian childhood - tart and yogurty. It's actually extremely healthy.

It's super delicious with the yogurt chips

The more frozen yogurt stores, the better. While visiting South Korea, I tried Red Mango as well as another store there called Yogen Fruz, and Yogen Fruz had the best taste and texture of all the frozen yogurt places.

Pinkberry's original location in West Hollywood used to boast lines of hipsters snaking down the block and scores of meter maids lined up to give parking tickets to their patrons who crammed the residential street to get their fix at 10 pm. Now there is a Pinkberry on every corner it seems, the lines are gone and the cops scattered to other locales.

I think their hype burned fast and hot but couldn't be sustained. Once people actually braved the line and had a taste of the "so-so" yogurt they crossed it off their list of things to try. There was a coolness factor to it, which thawed quickly. I wasn't impressed personally and I feel no need to go back. It didn't seem refreshing as I think a frozen dessert should. Also, there are now more knock-off's in Hollywood than I can count on all fingers and toes (I might need to borrow some of your digits actually). One such knock-off has never even opened its doors for business and I think, sadly, it's "game over" before it could even begin.

Go to Bloomingdales. If you're uptown go to the 40 Carrots cafe. If you're downtown, go to the floor with all of the purses/bags. Order a plain yogurt with granola and melba sauce.

Best frozen yogurt I've ever had.
