How do you manage your kitchen gadgets & equipment?

I just moved in with my boyfriend. We both cook a lot, and now we have multiple sets of everything. How do you decide what to keep or toss out? Do we keep more than one stockpot for soups and pastas? How many frying pans should we keep?

When I moved in with my boyfriend, he had a nice set of bowls but no plates. His reason? He liked the sorts of foods (soup, stew) that came in bowls, so saw plates as an unnecessary luxury. Imagine the 'eye rolling' emoticon here.
That said, I'd keep the pots and pans you have room for - it's probably easier to store two frying pans than two stock pots - and get rid of the rest, ditching the inferior ones first, obviously. Since I've lived with my boyfriend I've had a bit more disposible income (that usually happens, I guess), so it's easier to buy nice things - and I'm glad I didn't keep the crappy and potentially hazardous kitchenware I used as a university student. Also, no one needs two sets of cutlary, two spatulas, etc. It was hard for me to accept that, as I'm a bit of a hoarder, but when I did it was liberating to let go.
On the bright side, I've found that kitchen supplies are among the easiest things to fob off onto friends, so you won't necessarily have to throw things away. You may now have two blenders, but it's almost a certainty that you know someone who has none.

MANAGE kitchen gadgets? I would compare them to a cat ...you don't own them they own you! My gadget drawer has a life of it's own!

I'm with Sindy. I think I'm my kitchen's gadget most of the time.

Who needs multiple sets of whatever? ME! Actually, having multiple spatulas, multiple chef knifes, sautee pans, etc. does come in handy when you're cooking a decent-sized meal. Now some one with "common sense" is going to suggest "getting organized" or something. Pshaw.

I'm not much of a gadget guy myself, but I keep alot of duplicates of standards. Do you need two mortars and pestles? Probably not. Do you need five waffle makers? Probably not (I mean, unless you really dig waffles - then more power to ya). But having a half dozen wooden spoons or silicon spatulas won't kill you.

We've been living together for 25 years, and I still can't figure out how to organize. I would say keep more than you think you will need. Handles fall off , wooden spoons get charred, plastic melts. And a three frying pan minimum...

When my husband & I got together, pretty much most of his things got tossed or relegated to the camping gear. I had my own set of everything....so I stuck to that. As far as duplicates, I agree with the others....some things are better in duplicate...that includes stockpots. Have you tried to do a spaghetti dinner for a crowd...having a large pot for sauce & a large pot for spaghetti comes in handy!
I do organize my utensils though...I use mason jars on the counter for tools I use often...wooden spoons in one...rubber spatulas in another...etc. Other than that I do have a rolling cart with 4 drawers...I keep linens in one drawer...any tools used to prepare & cook food (pastry cutter,
baster, metal skewers, among other things) all go into one drawer, and then all serving utensils go into a separate drawer. The last drawer has anything I haven't found a home for, along with scoops & funnels. It works for me, and helps when I have 'helpers' in the kitchen while entertaining...I can just point them to a drawer!

Oh my Gosh Mepolo sounds.......GASP ...Organized! I bow down to you!!!!

I find this very easy. I jettison every gadget that I don't use, this includes broken pots and pans. And sadly, Bourgeat cookware is virtually indestructible. Whisks are kept in surface containers, small gadgets are housed in pâté containers. Serving apparatus is stored vertical when possible. Plus, I have a stab (aka immersion) blender. All utensil drawers have a oyster knfie, grater, and ice cream scoops.
