Can anyone recommend a great seafood/fish place in NYC?
I'm really in the mood for some good fish. Husband is more of a straight up carnivore but willing to compromise for the evening. Any suggestions? In Manhattan, por favor.

If fried seafood is your thing, Black Pearl on 26th between Broadway and 6th is good. I also like the Mermaid Inn in the East Village.

Esca at 43rd and ninth is a superb Italian seafood restaurant. Amazing crudo (raw fish), simple fresh whole and fillet fish preparations and amazing pastas with seafood. I am prejudiced, of course. I wrote a cookbook with the chef-owner Dave Pasternack. Feel free to use my name when you make your reservation.

There's always Pearl Oyster Bar (esp if you want lobster rolls) and Mary's Fish Camp, both in the Village/West Village area. And if you're looking to go all out, Le Bernardin.

Ethos, the Greek taverna-style restaurant, on 3rd Av., b/t 33rd & 34th Sts., serves whole fish. You can choose from their pristing selection displayed on ice at the rear of the dining room. Then, the kitchen will grill it expertly, and a server will filet it for you tableside. Delicious! Comes with terrific roasted lemon potatoes and tasty green beans.
A big plus is that, while you indulge your fish craving, there are excellent carnivorous options for your husband.
Note: There are other seafood items on the menu but, in my view, the whole fish is the way to go.

Thanks everyone. RGR, we live a few blocks from Ethos and are semi-regulars there. I love their salmon wrapped in grape leaves. Great suggestion, though I think we need a change of scenery!

I went to Lure on Friday of last week and all of our entrees were wonderful. The shellfish plateau was good, but not great, and the appetizers were delicious. We especially liked the tempura shrimp.

Don't forget about the good old Oyster Bar at Grand Central. They still have some of the best oysters in the city. Overall Aquagrill is one of my favorites in the city. If you are Brooklyn bound, the Brooklyn Bait Camp in Park Slope is fantastic.
