Your King Cake recipes. Laissez les bons temps rouler
I have 3 of them I use. One is like a kringle, one is like a danish ring and one is bready.
Speaking of bready, when I went with my neighbor to pick up her kid's brthday cake at the local bake shop they had king cakes. I asked what they were filled with and the counter girl said "nothing". I said "nothing are you sure?" She said" it is just bread with icing and sugar." I bit my tongue and left. I have made them with frangipane, cheese, cheese and fruit.
What do you fill yours with? Any recipes your willing to share? Ever hear of just bread?

Normally, here in New Orleans, a regular Kin Cake is just bread, colored sugar and icing. Most bakeries also make filled, but he plain bread is standard fare.

Frangipane and toasted chopped almonds. I have a 45-year-old ceramic baby I re-use every year. And the bread is "danish" pastry. Hell, it's only once a year! My easy frangipane is 1 tube of almond paste beaten with 1 egg. Works for me to fill one cake.
