What's your favorite fair/carnival food?
The Deep Fried Oreo topic, and its answers, got me wondering what are everyone's favorite fair/carnival foods? I cannot leave a fair without a corndog, a roasted ear of corn and half of a strawberry funnel cake. (I buy a bag of unflavored cotton candy on the way out and eat it over the course of a few days.) Oh, and I'm a sucker for the stands that sell that slushy real lemonade, too.

I love fried cheese curds, though I can only eat about 3 of them. I also love funnel cakes.
As much as I want to.. I just can't like corndogs. I try one every few years, but I just can't do it.

Bacalaitos: fried salt cod fritters.

I went to the Minnesota State Fair one year and ate pretty much everything they offered on sticks, and they offered a lot on sticks. Even a deep fried egg wrapped in meat on a stick! So I'd say anything on a stick is my favorite fair food, and that includes cotton candy.

megnut, yes, our state fair is quite famous for the food on a stick... this year they had hotdish on a stick...which baffled me and as much as I love things on a stick, I just couldn't bring myself to try it.

Corndogs! I think corndogs should be the next big food trend in 2007.

I love the kettle corn. Sweet and salty...I always buy extras to bring home with me. You just can't duplicate that stuff at home. Every year my aunt makes a million homeade apple pies and sells them at our local fair, while its not traditional fair food, its a tradition here in town, they are so incredibly good...

Of course corndogs! Is there really anything else better?

Roasted corn on the cob on a stick, slathered in melted butter and dusted with your choice of seasonings. Oh, and those huge turkey legs. Between the two, prepare to soak up a half-dozen napkins!

Kettlecorn, elephant ears, funnel cakes and deep fried dill pickles. Oh, and lemon shake ups and tacos from the local Mexican families. Carnival food rocks, thank goodness it is only around a few months of the year in our area. And no, I don't weigh 300 pounds but I probably should.....
AuntJone at 11:38AM on 02/20/07
gyros, funnel cakes, lemonade, and onion blossoms. Oh! And caramel apples, french fries, and cotton candy. :-)

Funnel cake and vanilla softserve.

Funnel cakes for sure, but when I was a kid we traveled north to the MA state fair and they had Fried Dough, oh how good... I wish I could get it locally in NJ.
jonfoxx at 8:52PM on 02/20/07
Chicken on a stick and shrimp on a stick.
malenky at 9:25PM on 02/20/07
@jonfoxx - you mean the Eastern States Exposition, also known as the Big E? The fried dough there is my favorite fair-going food. And that's with cinnamon and powdered sugar on top, not like those freaks who put marinara on it.
AdamH at 10:06PM on 02/20/07
mmm zeppolis...fried dough, powdered sugar, oil seeping through the bag. sausage, peppers & onions on a sub roll.

While in Korea, I encountered their version of a corn dog. It's a hot dog with the corn meal batter...but the batter also had french fries mixed it!!!
So the end product is a french fry studded corn dog!! YUM!!!!!!!!!!
Since I can't get that here I'll have to settle for the bloomin' onions...
JubileeNYC at 12:38AM on 02/23/07
