Question of the Day: What's your favorite breakfast?

47 Comments:

It used to be a hunk of lowfat oatmeal banana bread from Starbucks but they've discontinued it and have since replaced their breakfast pastries with cloyingly sweet crap.

But when I was a kid I loved soft, custard-like tofu in ginger syrup. You can still find sidewalk vendors in Chinatown who sell it.

My absolute favorite breakfast is eggs Hussard w/ marchand de vin sauce from Brennans. No questions, hands down, best breakfast ever. It is even better when followed with bananas foster...

I second the tofu in syrup! Or Indian rice noodles (sevai) served with a light, moist orange-coloured palm sugar and fresh grated coconut. The joys of growing up in Asia :)

I love tofu in brown sugar syrup with tapioca balls, but it's more an afternoon snack than breakfast to me. My favorite breakfast is crispy bacon, eggs over easy and some garlic fried rice. My favorite fast food breakfast is an egg, sausage and cheese McGriddle.

Tofu eek. I like an omelet with spinach and feta, pork roll or bacon or poultry country sausage link with apple, hash browns and a huge blueberry muffin warmed on the griddle or cinnamon toast.
When I eat something like that I do not eat lunch.
Now and then I make ricotta pancakes with a honey lemon syrup.

i love breakfast at home, esp. chocolate chip + blueberry pancakes, sliced oranges and fresh coffee. i would eat it at every meal except for attempting to preserve its specialness.

French toast made of thick-sliced challah, stuffed with lightly sweetened cream cheese with a little orange zest mixed in and soaked in a barely sweetened vanilla custard. It should be served with crisp bacon and a homemade, fresh fruit, syrupy compote. Mmmmmmmm. Is it time for breakfast yet?

I make my own McSandwich....two toasted and lightly buttered english muffins, scrambled eggs, crispy bacon and a slice of american cheese (and if I have it Avocado)

Good question, Dish. I'm going to make it "Question of the Day" for 2/6/2007, if you don't mind!

Perfectly fluffy and creamy scrambled eggs, not-too-crisp-and-not-too-floppy bacon, home fries (but without cumin, curry powder, or any other seasonings -- just salt and black and red pepper), and toast. I like to make mini sandwiches out of a couple of the toast halves. That or pigs in a blanket, in this case sausage links wrapped in pancakes. Gargh. I'm hungry now.

My favorite breakfast vacillates between biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs or huevos rancheros served with a heaping side dish of refried beans and fresh, flour tortillas. This morning, however, I'm just having granola and yogurt.

Biscuits and gravy - tall, fluffy but crusty biscuits, split and covered with peppered cream gravy full of crispy and tender chunks of breakfast sausage. Coffee. And fresh-squeezed blood orange juice.

Cereal! I love cereal. And french toast, belgian waffles, pancakes and oatmeal cooked on the stove. Old Fashioned oats, not the quick ones.

Sigh, I love breakfast.

My favorite breakfast menu item has to be Eggs Benedict, or any variation of benedicts thereof, such as the "Eggs Micheal" served at the Original Pancake House chain.

a gigantic bowl of cold cereal or a toasted oat bran raisin bagel with black bean and corn salsa on it...yum...

definitely eggs benedict... i've never attempted making hollandaise sauce, but i get it EVERY time i go out for breakfast

Huevos Rancheros. And also Columbian style breakfast plates:

Am I the only one who likes breakfast food but not actually eating at breakfast time? (Always woke up too late. I don't think my stomach ever got used to it.)

On that note, PANCAKES. Or FRENCH TOAST! All carbs. No meat.

Swedish pancakes (they are ultrathin) with butter and jelly. In daily life, my favorite breakfast is fruit sorbet in winter and fresh fruit in summer.

If I'm at home, Wasa knækkebrød (don't know what that's called in English - something like 'flat bread') with cheese and cucumber, and scrambled eggs. If I'm out, Eggs Royale or anything with bubble and squeak.

I've never been big on breakfast, but on a high school trip to Munich I absolutely fell in love with the crusty, pull-apart rolls with real butter and exotic preserves served with pots of tea by the little hotel we stayed at. If I could have that for breakfast every day, I'd be one very happy person. (Real waffles (not Eggo), made fresh come a close second, though!)

not a big breakfast eater, but if given the choice: classic eggs benedict or a greek omelet with fresh tomatoes, onions and feta cheese. anyone for cold pizza?

sweet cereal- fruit loops, frosted shredded wheat, cocoa puffs. mmmmmm. OR challah toasted with peanut butter and bananas. i love sweet stuff in the morning!

The breakfast I've been eating 5 days a week for a long time now is rolled oats with a little peanut butter, fruit, and a small cup of coffee. My favorite breakfast when I'm not cooking at home is thick-cut, well-battered, well-fried french toast.

Eggs Benedict is my favorite for eating out breakfast....
The best is the Steak and Eggs Benedict at a restaurant in KC called Room 39... awesome!! Served w/ the best home fries i've ever had. Anytime I make it back home to KC, I try and get there.

Healthy apple cinnamon pancakes that I used to eat when I was boxing. I posted the recipe on my website for all to see. Link Here

I prefer savory to sweet breakfasts: a fritatta with some apple-chicken sausage, or maybe some awesome huevos rancheros. I am also a sucker for egg sandwiches: cheese, tomato, avocado, hot sauce YEAH!

A flaky croissant, some cheese and a strong cup of coffee.

mmm...breakfast is one of four of my favorite meals of the day!
for a special occasion: shirred eggs with caramelized onions, fresh sage, cream & asiago cheese, sides of homemade buttermilk biscuits and jam and pan-fried potatoes (agree with you, Adam Kuban - no special seasonings, just S&P).
And here's my recipe for favorite everyday breakfast - it never gets tiresome!
In a bowl, mix:
1/2 cup old-fashioned oatmeal (I like Bob's Red Mill Rolled Oats)
heavy shake(s) of cinnamon
pinch of salt
2 tablespoon-ish raisins
2 tablespoon-ish dried cranberries
2 tablespoon-ish chopped walnuts
1 tablespoon-ish creamed honey
2/3 cup water
DO NOT COVER
Micro 2 min., then swirl in some whole milk.

Also breakfast burritos. Can't forget about those. Grate some potatoes, fry them up with lots of salt and black pepper til they're spicy, and fold into a tortilla w/cheesy scrambled eggs, sauteed peppers and onions (small dice), and salsa. mmmm

Breakfast Burritos?! I say NAY, my friends. The burrito is not a breakfast food! The burrito is a hearty meal best in circumstances where you are really hungry, perhaps from lifting heavy boxes, and possibly also drunk. For breakfast you need something smaller, hand-sized and portable... perhaps a breakfast TACO!

(Soyrizo, cilantro, tabasco and scrambled eggs wrapped in a corn or flower tortilla. Takes 2 to fill you up. And like the silver bullet, they will not let you down.)

I am obsessed with pancakes. I mean to me there is nothing simpler and perfect than pancakes. We have a running joke in my family and on the blog that I am 13% pancake do to this obsessions. However, if I had to chose a second it might be beignets. I love me some sweet in the morning.

Champagne, Brioche French toast, Foie Gras sausages, Pure Maple Syrup, Fresh Peaches, Rosemary Potatoes, Freshly squeezed Orange Juice, Coffee and a Cigarette. As Barbara Holland once said, "This should be served with sunlight spreading across the table, or, better, outdoors on a balcony or flagstone patio, in the company of a single well-behaved honeybee and someone with whom you’re madly in love.”

it's depends on whether good or evil prevails. luckily, i like both.

the good: oatmeal cooked with vanilla soymilk with a dash dark brown muscovado sugar sprinkled on top and fresh squeezed orange juice.

the evil: zepher pancakes, lots of applewood smoked bacon, sweet potato hash browns, and steady pours of veuve clicquot.

i don't know how the moderators feel about posting recipes from cookbooks, so if anyone wants a copy of the zepher pancakes recipe (from the king arthur flour baker's companion and, hands down, the best pancakes i've ever made) just shoot an e-mail to me at: the DOT word DOT yes A T gmail.com and i'll be happy to send you a copy later on tonight.

Porridge. Made the Scots way with salt and then with added sugar and milk as you eat it. The breakfast of champions.

Eggs Florentine and great coffee.

i forgot to name my own: yeast waffles. or, because in my head i'm french, gaufres.

A very soft poached egg & very hot oatmeal!

For everyday, it has to be porridge with raisins (sweet enough without sugar) and milk. Previous post was dead right, you have to put in a pinch of salt before cooking, trust me. For a little treat, beat one egg, one tbsp sugar,a good shake of cinnamon, about 4 tbsp milk and a few drops vanilla extract. Mix all together on a plate and dip two slices white bread in the mixture, both sides til all soaked up. Then fry in BUTTER. Soooooo worth it.

tea and a plum donut.

I do love my weekend breakfasts of 2 hard boiled eggs, a pumpernickel bagel with whipped chive cream cheese and lox on top, and a pot of Trader Joe's Italian roast coffee.

During the week at work I have a more modest affair of Wasa bread with peanut butter and an HB egg.

If I go out for breakfast, I like over-easy eggs on toast.

I dont really eat breakfast too much. either i'm not up that early or or im late for something and dont eat. but i love me some brunch, Eggs benidict and bloodly marys form 12 -3

My great-aunt introduced me to this one: two very soft boiled eggs scooped out over cut-up pieces of buttered toast. Toast the bread, butter it, slice it or tear it up into pieces up in a bowl, and then scoop out your soft boiled (or over easy, or lightly poached) eggs over it. Season generously with salt and pepper. HEAVEN!

That's at home; if I go out to the DeliNews (Texas' answer to a NY deli) I always order the lox and bagels.

Favorite breakfast? one w/ SOUL...starts with Florida orange juice...
Hot and sagey pan sausage (I make my own) , eggs scrambled easy, cheese grits w/added butter, tall glass cold milk, ending with coffee. YES!
If you cant go that route, 2nd best is ultra thin pancakes, maple syrup, not tooo crisp bacon, milk & coffee. Grrreat start of the day or brunch...

The Full English. Eggs, bacon, sausage, black pudding, tomatoes, mushrooms, tattie scone, beans, toast and marmalade and a pot of coffee.

OOOHH I loove me some breakfast! Here's my list: Sausage gravy and bisquits, sausage patties, eggs over medium, wheat toast with butter, OJ, milk, cereal with ice cold milk, hash browns, home fries, pancakes, waffles, bacon, corn fritters with maple syrup, McGriddles with sausage and egg and no cheese, chocolate covered custard filled donuts, spiced apples, fresh fruit, my husbands oatmeal, scrambled eggs with potatoes and bacon and onion mixed in, plain bagel with cream cheese and raspberry preserves on top, cinnamon crunch bagel with hazlnut cream cheese on top, cheese and cherry danish, granola with chocolate from Germany (shout-out to my German peeps!), and alchohol :-)

I love left overs for breakfast. Any thing from the night before (pizza...yum) re-heated and eaten. Not really a huge breakfast fan though...
