Midnight... a sudden need for something sweet (or savoury).

Midnight... a sudden need for something sweet (or savoury). For what are you going to?

15 Comments:

Edamame with sea salt is my current snack obsession (when I remember to look in the freeze for them!).

Kashi Chewy Trail Mix granola bar or an apple

ice cream. or oreos.

Spaghettata - a simple pasta (I mostly make aglio e olio con peperoncino). It is great when friends stay late (I usually make it around midnight) and a good reason to drink at least one more bottle of wine.

Is this even a question? :)

If I am in NYC, it's a slice, or a bowl of soup in Chinatown.

If I am in SF, it's a burrito or super quesadilla suiza.

If I am in Vietnam, it's Pho, though I've great early morning snails and dried squid.

Sometimes, no matter where you are, it's falafel!

I honestly make do with whatever hasn't made it out of my kitchen. 'Could be a bite of that too-old ice cream hanging out in the freezer door, some crackers and cheese, toast with cream cheese, cereal, nuts, pickles, chocolate milk, or, if I'm up to messing with the stove, matzo brei.

I add this to the talk last night (almost midnight in Italy, much earlier in the States) because I had the urgent need of something sweet... and chocolatey, of course!

NSW: Sounds like you get around! Enviable problem to have, picking among slices, burritos, or pho ;)

nachos. Good corn tortilla chips, sharp cheddar and chi chi's salsa, olives, maybe some left over chili, sour cream.

A little bit of something savory followed by a little bit of something sweet; usually chocolate. Lately, though, it's been a bowl of peanut butter Cap'n Crunch, a childhood favorite, rather than chocolate.

I like smoked fish on toast at times like that. Smoked mackerel is particularly nice. On some very seedy bread with mustard. Then dark chocolate for afters.

Cold pasta (almost always in my fridge) for savory.
Sorbet--current favorites include H-D Raspberry and Strawberry, and B&J's Jamaican Me Crazy--for sweet.

Good bread topped with peanut butter and sliced banana. Chased with ice cold milk. You sleep like a baby after that.

For something sweeter, I reach for Carr's wheat crackers and a dab of Nutella.
