Love the site, hate the color scheme?
FULL DISCLOSURE: I adore this site. I love the design and the user interface. The concept and the content are top notch. (Please don't let Yahoo! buy it and ruin it like they did Flickr. Hold out for a chunk of Google's money.)
The thing that gets to me is the color scheme. Is the person in charge of the page's palette colorblind? The worst is the Talk section, really. As you scroll down the page the colors look like an office, circa 1992, when all computers and peripherals were putty, gray, taupe, or sand. Then there is that papaya-colored stripe at the top, it clashes and isn't the same color value
But, I may be the only one that feels this way. What do the rest of you think about the color scheme?

Honestly, I don't love it. But I also don't find it too offensive either.

I love it, but...my bedroom is chartreuse and eggplant, my bathroom is teal and hot pink, kitchen red and cream...so I don't know if I've got much cred here.

Calichef, I agree that the colors aren't as coherent as they could be. Luckily, we're in the process of some design refinements, and will be working to smooth things out over time. So thanks for your thoughts. We like feedback!

Mmmmm. FEEDback.

As a designers viewpoint, I love it. It's different, easy on the eyes and the fact that this even caught your attention is a good thing. Serious Eats rocks.

I agree with NickDavid---it may be a little visually boring in some spots, but when I've already spent all day staring at a computer screen for work, I don't want to be looking at a riot of color in my play time. There's just enough color to make the important stuff "pop" and make the pages easy to read.

The colors are nicely muted (i.e. nothing is screaming), but seriously in advertising class they tell you never to use orange!

Thanks, everybody!
BaHa- Eggplant and chartreuse are actually kinda cool, in a very dramatic way.
Megnut- Thanks a lot! I pretty much knew that this isn't the final design, I just wondered if I was the only one that found it... odd.
Adam Kuban- Would you like some gravy with that?
NickDavid- I agree on two counts: It is, indeed, different and Serious Eats rawks!
msmla- It doesn't have to be a riot of color, but does it have to be an etranquilizer?
monica- Thank you! I've always thought of orange as the most controversial color. People either love it or hate it. I'm in the *not* loving it camp. Also, I enjoy nicely muted, but prefer something with more cheerful, muted colors. Perhaps colors that men's Dockers don't come in? Maybe we could stick our necks out and step up to pinpoint shirt colors?

I don't love the color palette either, but I'm excited that there's changes coming up and glad that the Serious Eats team is so open to feedback. :)
