Black coffee during dinner: your thoughts?
that's the question - does it destroy the flavors - would depend on the entree, right?

I find the question a bit puzzling because, honestly, why would anyone want coffee with their dinner? Coffee afterwards, sure. But during? As an accompaniment? It just doesn't compute.

I'm not sure. I haven't ever had coffee during dinner, either. Sometimes after, if I have a dessert that matches. Going back to my interest in hamburgers, however, I find it interesting that coffee was the original beverage to accompany them. White Castle popularized the burger on a wide scale in the early '20s, and it served an inexpensive cuppa Joe with its sackfuls of sliders. It wasn't until later that colas became the drink of choice.

I've only known older people (pre baby boomer) to do this. I find the idea rather repellent.

Black coffee with dinner seems like something Travis Bickle would've ordered while on a date with the Cybill Shepherd character, further alienating her from him.
I guess it makes sense if you're driving some distance, at night, and stop off by the roadside for some chow that coffee could kinda sorta agree with, like a burger or a grilled cheese. Add a fruit pie at the end, as your refilled cup will go very well with that. It's not an ideal circumstance, though.
