Question of the Day: Apple Deathmatch! Gala, McIntosh, Granny Smith. What's Your Favorite?

18 Comments:

Hands down my favorite are Honeyscrips, which you can only get when in season here in Minneapolis. Otherwise, I would have to say Fuji.

Lately, I'm all about the Macoun, a cross between McIntosh and Arkansas black varieties.

Yorks--crisp, tart, and funny-looking, as they list to one side.

Honeyscrips...the gang member's favorite! No offense meant, I just love a great typo!

Definately honeycrisp...

Fujis for eating out of hand. I prefer a mix of Granny Smith, Jonathan, Gravenstein and Braeburn for cooking. Mixing them up makes for a much deeper and more complex flavor in the end product.

When I saw the question on the main page, I instantly thought "Honeycrisp!"
(Hey BaHa - a gang member's got to eat too!)

Calichef, I love to blend various apples too. I like to think that's my secret to a great apple pie!

And I love a local Macintosh in the fall.

I didn't even notice my typo until I read your comment BaHa... oops! :)

Honeycrisp when in season, otherwise Fuji year round.

Fuji, Gala (pronounced Gahla or Gayla?) or a nice, slightly soft Jonah Gold.

I used to be a Granny Smith girl until I tried Pink Lady!

Honeycrisp, Fuji, and Braeburn.

When I was younger, I liked Granny Smith, but now I'm beginning to prefer Gala apples.
