Where to shop for the best tropical fruits in New York City?
I love tropical fruits such as Papaya, Star Fruit (Carambola), Guava, Passion Fruit, Lychee, Longan, and other exotic fruits such as Fuyu Persimmons...Can anyone tell me where is a great place to go to buy these beautiful fruits? I hardly ever see them and when I do, they are not in great quality or overly expensive...Is there a secret place to go to get these tropical and exotic fruits in Manhattan? Any tropical fruit experts out there?

That's a tough question. I would try Fairway first, and for lychees I would definitely try Chinatown

Chinatown. They have stands all up and down Broadway and off on the side streets, and those fruits are also available in Chinese markets. They do have seasons though, so you won't be able to find all of them year round. Have definitely seen many varieties of all that you mentioned and morre (breadfruit! hairy lychees! multiple varieties of persimons!) there (I used to go to Chinatown every week.)
