What is happening with Chinatown? Lots of closings..
The bahn mi post made me think -- there used to be a good Bahn Mi place near the highway overpass (of course I can't remember its name), but it's closed and so has both Sweet and Tarts. Are rents going up? Why does there seem to be a lot of turnover in NYC's Chinatown lately?

I believe that Chinatown has never fully recovered economically post 9/11.

I can barely remember what Chinatown was like before 9/11. I remember shortly after, but it seems to be as bustling as ever. Certainly full of people whenever I go there.
I was especially dismayed to see that the big Sweet & Tart had closed. That place was really popular.

Someone just told me they had a great meal at a restaurant called 66 Mott Street. I just had some really good wonton soup at Wonton Garden. My favorite won ton soup is at New Chao Chow on 111 Mott Street just north of Canal.
$2.50 for a quart.

Does anyone know why the big Sweet & Tart closed? That was one of my favorite places...
