I'll answer even though I asked ... I don't have plans yet. I was hoping to get ideas from the Serious Eats community for a good last-minute place to go for dinner.

My friends and I are cooking a roast dinner so I guess that doesn't help you much! If we weren't staying in this year, however, I thought Room 4 Dessert's $100 for all the Champagne and food (both sweet and savory) you can eat sounded fun.

I doubt it... I know the bf's mother wants to but the restaurant she picked is a, um, takeout-ish Chinese place in Howard Beach, and I'm not keen on going all the way out there to come back to the city... and shelling out $40 for that crap is not my idea. I'd like to stay in and nosh on leftovers from a party we're having the day before... :)
Sorry, that doesn't help, but we're probably hitting Ulysses for the New Year's Eve party !

Going out to a friend's restaurant, Teatro, with six of my nearest and dearest. Good food, dancing next door - it's in Toronto and tickets - $50 - have to be secured before the event...so it's not last minute but I think there are still tickets available for the first seating.

My wife and I are going to Applewood in Park Slope, Brooklyn, which has become are regular dining spot in the neighborhood. We'll be at an "early seating" which is $85 per person and includes a three-course menu,
complete with wine pairings for each course.

Yes--going to Crispo in Manhattan. It's delicious, on the next block, and no fixed menu.

Nowhere. I have to hop on a plane the next morning to Tampa. Gah!

I was going to go to the enotecca in del posto, which if it isn't jacking up the prices for new year's eve, has an incredible $41 prix fixe 4 course meal ($59 with wine pairings for each course), but Vicky (my wife) now says we are making fondue for some friends.

Livetotravel: Thanks for the reminder on Applewood. I'll call to see if they still have seats. (Somehow I doubt it.) Sounds like a nice choice. Would be nice to have a good meal before sitting home and watching DVDs. (Yes: This year I'm being a lame homebody with the gf.)

I'll be at the second seating (9pm) at Blue Hill at Stone Barns. Very much looking forward to it.

We're cooking a super luxe dinner with friends: venison loin with perigueux sauce, savory mushroom bread pudding and fig tart for dessert and lots of wine, champers and good conversation.
And dangitall Adam! You live in Brooklyn now... get thee to the Park and watch the fireworks, they're absolutely AMAZING!!! You can basically get right underneath them. It's truly awe inspiring.

My husband and I are planning on going to Ici in Clinton Hill. Haven't been there yet but hear great things so it seems like a good time to try.

we actually went out the night before. it's our traditional "faux new year's eve". calmer and easier to get a good reservation. had a lovely meal at the Waverly Inn. Food wasn't quite as good as I had hoped, but I'll go back.
