I would like to ask for suggestions for excellent dim sum in and around San Francisco.

I am picky about my dim sum, mostly because my dad was a cook in Chinese restaurants for most of his life here. Anyway, I'd like something on the cheaper side, but with

There is no question that the best dim sum in SF can be found at Yank Sing. They have two locations but the original in Rincon Center is HUGE! The food is amazing and the prices are cheap. I was in SF last week and felt compelled to go.....again!

I haven't been myself, but I've heard good things about Gold Mountain in Chinatown and it meets your "cheaper" requirement.

At the risk of tooting my own horn, I wrote an article about this for VIA, the N. California AAA magazine: http://www.viamagazine.com/top_stories/articles/Dim_Sum05.asp

My family is Chinese, and we like the ones in Millbrae the best...word is that Yank Sing, though good, is more for...ahem, the whiteys.

Hi, thank you all for the great suggestions. I have to admit, I agree with NYminknit - I prefer the ones in Millbrae to the ones in Chinatown, SF proper. I quit eating at Fook Yuen, though, after some really terrible service, and have been looking for a better fit since.

If you are ever out in the East East Bay (San Ramon) you should definitely try Willow Tree in Dublin (it's like one exit away from Stoneridge Mall).
