PrintISO Good Soup joint in the East Village
My boyfriend works from home on 3rd Ave and St Marks. He's a fan of various soups and stews: lobster bisque, chili, tortilla soup, clam chowder, and more. There's not a Soup Man, Pax, or Hale and Hearty in sight. What to do? Can anybody recommend a good soup joint, especially for to-go or delivery?

Veselka on 9th & 2nd Ave has some of the best soups in the city: borschts of various stripes, delicious cabbage soup, wonderful mushroom barley, and wonderful daily specials. Beats the pants off soup man & pax any day
Also of note is B&H Dairy on 2nd Ave btwn St Mark's and 7th St. Hands down the best Split Pea soup ever.
For japanese noodles there's SobaYa on 9th St btwn 2nd & 3rd Aves.
For ramen, MenkuTei on Cooper Sq/3rd Ave btwn St Mark's and 7th St.
For really serious ramen Momofuku does take out, they're on 1st Ave near 10th St.
I think Mudspot on 9th just opposite Veselka does soup too.
And finally Temple Korean on St Marks btwn 1st & 2nd Aves does awesome noodle soup lunch specials.
Your boyfriend lives in one of the best soup areas in NYC, branch out of the corporate soup hegemony and explore!

Thanks for the suggestions...The problem is that he's not really into Eastern European or Asian soups. I'm a big fan of soba and ramen, but he isn't.
Veselka seems promising -- I always forget to check their daily specials online. But they don't have the seafood bisques, chili, Mexican soups, chowders, etc. that he's looking for.
